Found of late that my rear brake sticks a bit and I have to lift the rear brake pedal to free it off fully, as its a Buell and the rear brake is sh1t i hardly use it but must have it TUV tested on Wednesday so thought I had better sort it. So first thought was that the brake pedal pivot would be corroded and holding the pedal from returning. I was surprised when I undid the pivot bolt that it was not a shouldered bolt and had a full depth thread, it was also obvious that it was just the bolt tension that was pinching the pedal. So the question is if this is correct and I can just refit the bolt with some threadlock to stop it undoing or should there be a different bolt fitted? |

I was just looking on the TWIN website and it looks as though there is a sleeve that the pedal should pivot on and the bolt clamps the sleeve to the frame, that makes sense so will remove the pedal tomorrow and have a closer look. |

Hope you get it sorted....Interesting to hear you dont use rear brake on the uly....I find i use it a lot, mainly into corners to lose some speed without upsetting things too much...I found the front dives on braking more than i was use to, so im off the front before corner....Great bikes i rekon.. ![]() |

I had the same thing on my Uly whilst in Germany, the guy who owned the appartement we were renting gave me some wd40 which cleared the problem (we'd had torrential rain most nights and the bike was outside) Stripped the pedal off when we got back and found the steel sleeve was tight in the nylon bush. |

Paul - I found that with tuning the front suspension you can minimise the dive and trail brake into corners quite easily, the back brake always needs too much pressure for my taste and is emergency and poor conditions only use. Kev - so I have brake lever, nylon liner, steel sleeve then bolt, I'll pull it all apart tomorrow and clean and grease it. Thanks for the heads up. |

By fork tuning I guess you mean adjusting preload and damping settings but you can also get a major benefit, particularly in terms of minimising dive, by fitting 07 fork springs to 06 Ulys. They're tri-rate ![]() Steve |

You're right Steve I did mean adjusting damping and preload. I have heard of using 07 springs, are they a worthwhile improvement? |

Just thinking out loud Nick...... Does an 06 single rate spring have any progression in it, under increasing load...? |

paulastbury wrote: Just thinking out loud Nick...... Does an 06 single rate spring have any progression in it, under increasing load...? Only due to the increased air pressure inside the fork leg as the volume decreases but in reality that doesn't have a great effect in most circumstances. |

Took it all apart today and sure enough the sleeve was seized in the bush but 2 sockets and a vice soon pressed it out. There was a very small amount of surface corrosion on the sleeve which polished out with a little emery paper in no time. Cleaned out the inside of the bushes (There are 2 top hat bushes one either side of the pedal and tried the sleeve, it was free half way then stuck in the second bush. A little work with emery cloth and all is free again, a touch of grease and fitted back on the bike and works fine. Thanks for the help. |

Thanks Pash, must look for some springs now, might put them on the mantle piece next to the lucky hands gear ![]() |
