Leaving aside the marital issues, the Autocom units are fabulous kit, although I don't use bike to bike or pillion, just for the phone, MP3, GPS.

Last time I used it, the person at the other end complained about the drop in quality when I got off the bike! Open lid works to about 50, closed lid I've never had a problem.

This is the phone conversation with the missus when I first fitted it:

Norm: OK, the engine's running, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Nope, nothing.
Norm: I'm doing about 20 with the lid open, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Nope, nothing.
Norm: 40 with the lid open, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Nope, nothing.
Norm: OK, 60 with the lid open, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Yeah, there's just a bit of noise in the background now.
*close lid*
Norm: How about now with the helmet shut, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Nope, nothing.
Norm: I'm doing about 100 now, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: 100! I can't hear anything but should you be going that fast?
Norm: I'm just testing this. Can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: How fast are you going?
Norm: Details details, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: How fast are you going
Norm: Faster than last time I asked and I'm still accelerating. Can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: I'm hanging up now...

 now that's a funny post

I went for the L1 Logic for both bikes - I wanted the option for the phone & MP3 + didn't want to have to 'press to talk' as it is a pain to have something wired into and attached to the bikes. With the hub and radio we can just put them in a tank bag or daysack, therefor nothing needs to be connected or wired to the bikes.

I'll see how it works out, hopefully it'll be fine.

would be interested in how you get on, I've always like the Autocomm stuff, just there pricing I was never happy with :old:

Don't know where you are Roddy but I think this place has 20% off everything this weekend, which makes this kit under £130.

cheers for that Norm

I currently run 2 radios for rider pillion, but my boys are now getting big enough to take out for a wee scoot and I was thinking the comm's might be a bit easier if they didn't have the PTT to think about and could just speak. I did try an Intaride EVO kit but the good lady couldn't get on with the vox hence the 2 radio's, so this is why I was wondering how the L1 system faired.

I'll wait till I hear good/bad about the system

The kit hasn't arrived yet but worked out at 220 per bike - I'm still sitting down recovering  - once fitted I'll give you an update.

Go for the autocom, ive used auto com on my Blackbird for the last five years, I now have the superpro AVI, they are selling them off cheap at the moment, ive just taken the Buell to France and fitted the autocom for the trip no probs bike to bike clear at 90mph, and that was using VOX, and no probs with the GPS.

It has had heavy use too, I am a safety marshal for Plymouth motorcycle club, so it gets used twice a week, and on all of the charty rides we do every year, the plugs are good and sturdy, and if you do beak one, you just by a replacment cable kit for about £20, the one bit of sound advice I will give you is dont by a cheap radio, like the Allen or the Oxford, I use the Kenwood tk3201 expensive but good, and you can bike power it, or the Icom is just as good, good luck :)

sorry didnt read the full post on way to work

I bought a Scalarider Q2 set comprising of 2 headsets. They work extremely well with my Zumo 550 , phone and pillion. I wanted to get my other half on 2 wheels so we bought a 125 scooter for her to get used to being on the road (she doesn't drive a car). I took her and the scoot to Romford cardrome, where she could get in some practice before taking her CBT. I stood in the middle of the site and using the Scalarider was able to give her instructions as she rode around the whole site which is about 5 acres in size. Since passing her test, we often ride out and talk via the headsets and we have never lost connection on the road, even if she's got away from me at a roundabout and been maybe 1/2 mile away. The only fault I can find is the Scala will only connect with 2 bluetooth devices at any given time, so if you have a GPS and a pillion connected, you cant also have an MP3 player connected as well. The phone connects via the GPS.

I use the autocom stuff, -GPS, pillion, MP3 It all works faultlessly.
Sits nicely under the "tank" where my exhaust servo used to live!
I've never used it Bike to Bike but have no reason to doubt it would be brill at that too. Clear as a bell regardless of speed.

Si.

Out of interest, what do people talk about with other bikes?
When I'm out with Mrs Adam we use signs;

Extend right leg to show it's safe to follow an overtake,
Point at the tank for fuel,
Point at gob for food/brew stop,
Thumb down if Plod/cameras are spotted
Clenched fist to Har*ey riders who get in yer way

Costs nowt :D

Thought I'd give some feedback on the Autocom Logic comms set ups - We went out for the maiden ride with the kits fitted to each rider, radios and 'Hubs' carried in Bum Bags as there isn't much room to fit them under the saddles of the XB or the Hyper. We covered about 150 miles, they worked brilliantly and were dead easy to fit to our helmets, both of which are front openers (Nolan & BMW). No wind or road noise and once we got used to the VOX setup we had no problems other than not a great range. I reckon this was because the radios were on their sides(?) I need to get some kind of carriers to enable them to be carried upright, that should increase the range I think(?)

So all in all I'm well chuffed, they do exactly what it says on the tin.

You'll increase the range if you use a decent aerial. Quality handheld sets, Yuasa, Icom, Kenwood etc, will allow you to bin the 'rubber duck' set up, which is very limiting despite the transmission Wattage and fit a proper antennae with something like a 1/4 wave tuned length. With the proper gear, it's possible to transmit to the other hemisphere with under a Watt. It's long time since I used handheld sets on exercises but iirc, fag packet size ones could deliver upto approx 3 Watts?

Changing the ariel is worth a go, the sets are Midland G7's. As Autocom supplied them I'm guessing they are at least ok or it would make their gear look crap :?:
