[Martin.................are you sure the resistances are bad because both the coil on my bike and the spare i have are showing readings twice what it says in the manual if you take the readings from HT outlet to HT outlet and across the two outer terminals on the primary.........if you take readings using the center pin as a common you'll find that all readings will half and be in spec :yup: .........can't see that both my coils have failed identically ;) ....I've fitted my spare one for now but don't hold much hope for it curing the problem though.

Your right kev, tis half. so is the manual is wrong ? it tells you which contacts to test.
got a cam sensor on its way as you did but reading your posts i am not getting my hopes up.
a duff ecm may be another line of enquiry.
Looks like we are in the same boat. :headbang:
Will be interesting to see who comes up trumps first
Cheers.

I seem to think years ago i tested my coil and went by the manual thinking it was wrong and then somewhere came across contradicting reports that suggested it should be from the centre pin as common.
Hope we both get sorted soon as i have a trip to the czech republic in august and plan on taking the X1 now as i'm not sure an 1125 is up to such a longtrip.

Welll i did 1850miles in 5 days on the JoGLe trip last year and could have done it again straight from the finish ....I find the X1 very comfy.........this trip will be about 2500 miles over 14 days ;)

Well have had all the wiring connectors off to check for corrosion etc .......nothing found that looked like it could have been causing problems though....spare ecu has been connected and TPS set on it ....original is back on and BAS has been disabled in the ecu ........ECU earth is good with no resistance, confirmed 12v supply to ecm and 5v supply to sensors.
I think next ride will be with multimeter to confirm 12v and 5 volts at ecu at the time of failure .....also spare ecu in pocket to quick swap to see if bike fires up without waiting to cool.............also if i can get it in my rucksack laptop and lead to plug ecm spy in at the roadside to see if it can see any missing outputs from sensors etc . (ok i know ........it won't see it if it's missing but you know what i mean lOl )

I've been working 10 - 10 days (still there now ;) ) so haven't had a chance to try it since sunday ...............hoping to put back together in the morning and go for a ride as starting at 2pm tomorrow. Problem is having time to go for a long enough ride to get it to playup as need to be doing at least 50 miles maybe as much as 100 to get it hot enough. Going to take the multimeter and laptop tomorrow as well as the spare ecu and do some quick roadside checks as soon as it stops hopefully ..........need to confirm whether i'm losing the ecm power (12v) if not whether i have the ecm 5v for my sensors. If both are present will quick swap ecm for spare and see if it fires back up. Hopefully that will help with the diagnosis .......can also connect ecmspy at roadside and see if everything looks ok there. I'm assuming if ecm 5v is present i should also be able to see CPS signal coming back to ecm when i crank the engine over.

And also when the bike fails the speedo still registers so power to the speedo sensor must still be present (not the same as the regulated 5v to the other sensors though if i'm right with my thinking).

Have you done the 'Maz mod' of taking the speedo sensor feed from the ECU? That could act as a tell tale on one aspect :?

Nope the speedo sensor is as original ......was thinking that myself this evening Adam ........do the mod then if the 5V fails speedo would stop as well .
