Dear All, been a while since I've been on the forum, so I hope everyone is doing well? Hi to all that know me!

I have an Autocom super pro avi Intercomm on my XB12R. I am very pleased indeed with its performance. However, I have a new SAT-NAV system, a snooper syrius with a headphone socket that I plug into my autocom. The unit works extremely well when running off its own battery, but the moment I connect the syrius to on-board power from an accessory socket, I get a lot of buzzing and engine speed related interference. I'm suspecting that I may need to fit some sort of electrical supression, but have no idea how this would be done. I seem to remember capacitors or similar being fitted to cars years ago to stop the radio buzzing. I'm confident this is not an issue with the syrius, as I use the same power supply and connect the output via my car stereo with no adverse effects. Does anyone have any advice please?

Many thanks in advance,

Si.

Look for a different source. Which one are you using? Try the output from the Data Link (ECMSpy) connector. I would have to check, but the output may be directly from the ECM and I would think some smoothing would have been applied to the output...

I am no electronics king, but if this didn't work, I would stick it through a 7812 voltage regulator. On the data sheets for these things you will find schematics showing the capacitors needed for transient suppression. Part number QL32K at Maplins would do the trick...

If I do remember correctly, suppression capacitors were used in ancient times for car radios to get rid of such kind of noise. Maybe asking for that at a car hifi shop or a Bosch store could help you further. A 7812 voltage regulator requires at least 14.5 Volts to work properly, I don't think that this voltage is available all the time.

Thanks very much for the advice guys. Got an in line supressor from the local motabits place and also a ferrite ring from maplins for the audio out cable. Sound quality is the best it's ever been! Nice one!
