Evenin' all - Sanatogen Geoff here. After lots of attempts to join in the fun, I finally got logged on with help from Ash. :yup: I've been riding since 1960, with my first bike being a Greeves Scottish Trials bike - very handy for for the hills and mountains of South London. Rode on (and mostly off) since then, going through Triumphs, Yams,Kwaks, etc. After a varied career as a second-hand dog salesman, Coronation programme seller, jelly nailer, etc, I was a reporter on the old Motor Cycle Weekly from '76 - 84. Anyone remember that lovely old mag? Anyway, having passed the mid-life crisis, I bought a Sportster in '07, but always had a hankering for a Buell. Planned to get an XB9SX in Spring this year, but a call from Shaws Harley immediately after Erik's news, saw me testing an XB12SX, which I bought in late November '09. What a tool. 8-) Being a wimp, I haven't taken it out much 'cos of the weather, and I've only done 165 (glorious) miles. Started it last Saturday and it fired on one cylinder. (no, I didn't touch the throttle) Eventually it went onto two, after lots of backfiring and spluttering. Should I worry about that Marge? Great to join in the fun!

Welcome Geoff. 8-)
I had one of my Triumph Chops featured in Dave Richmond's "Custom Cache" when the paper went to magazine format in the early 80's. Always preferred the Weekly to the News.

Aaah. Thanks for the welcome, guys. Yeah, Dave Richmond was our resident Hell's Angel. Lovely bloke who rode a filthy old Panther - can't remember what bike he had. Dave used to go on walk - about from the office, so he wrote about 63 words a week. He's still around, and the last I heard he was a sub-editor on a trucking magazine. At least, I think that was how it was spelt...

Welcome Geoff,
Best not to take her out in this climate cos it makes yer nuts go all furry!
They can be lumpy after being stood but make sure you get her up to temp. before you turn her off so as not to foul the plugs.
Mind, an old bugger like you should know that anyhow! :4roz:

Welcome Geoff, just take the bike out and give it a blast.

My XT was a little like that after lying up in the garage for about 6 weeks....within about 300 yards down the road it nearly tore my arms off then ran fine !!

Eric.

I don't remember Phil Curry. I remember Bob Currie, a marvellous old guy who hung around waiting for motor cycles to be invented. And no, I'm not Cyril Green, although it's a nice name. ;) Who was he anyway?

Hi Adam - there used to be a ficticious character called Edgar Jessop who was invented by the motor cycle press and used by the public address announcers in the Isle of Man back TT in the 70's. They used to talk about him when they were stuck for something to say while things were going wrong. It got to the stage where the fans got the joke and produced banners/stickers/T-shirts and he had a bit of a fan club!

I yearn for the days of the Blue 'un and the Green 'un, and the adverts for the Turbo Visor' as well lOl lOl

Have you ever encountered the delights of Hurley- Pugh Motorcycles? They are the favourite marque of Digger. I think you'll appreciate them too, they have a great website ;)
