With the ride home becoming ever darker I would like to upgrade my headlights. What I would really like to do is fit two dipping/main beam lamps. I have no worries on the wiring or fitting side but would appreciate advice regarding suitable lamps.

Cheers

the bulbs are H7 so don't know what upgrades are best except some people have gone to HID. that or alter the wiring so both lights stay on when on high beam, which is what i did

Thanks for the reply Mitch. Think I'll modify so they both say on as you suggest. HID involves extra wiring and I cant be arsed.

some have done it by soldering across the terminals in the light switch, i did it by swapping the sidelight with the dip light wire to keep the dip on, one wire is orange, the other is yellow, cant remember which is which tho

Have everything in the shed to move to a twin H4 setup. Just need some time to build the fittings to that it will fit to the current mountings.

Don't count on this being finished anytime soon, I've been intending on doing this since the start of last winter. So far, have only modified the wiring so that the appropriate power feeds for hi and lo beam get through to both lamps.

Hid is simple to fit Bob ...........the wire from the lamp just connects to the ballast instead and the new HiD "bulb" is already prewired ready to fit into the headlamp. ;)

Are HIDs legal behind non-HID lenses?

as far as i can work out HID lights are only legal if oem fitted as the reflectors are not suited to the HID bulb.

Are small plates and noisy exhausts.......no rear reflectors and numerous other things ;) ;) ;)

Don't have any problems with people flashing me so obviously not distracting to other motorists...........but have noticed in daylight how much sooner people seem to see me approaching from behind and move out of the way............and the difference in visability at night is truely amazing 8-)

Must admit I like the idea of being spotted. I have already had a couple of close ones this winter. Where is the best place to get the lamps from?

I wanted to improve the feeble standard set-up on our 08 XB12X so I fitted two of Halfords Super Brilliance HBU477SB H7 Bulbs - they work a treat and have proved very effective for the limited amount of night time riding that I do.

It goes without saying that they're a lot better at getting you noticed in daylight.

They're also wallet friendly :P, Halfords have a two-for-one offer at the moment - details: here

Thanks go to Rick (of Rik-n-Tigs) for the suggestion :worthy:...
