I'm guessing that he has a Royal Enfield Continental GT. It was a 250cc learner legal single cylinder bike. A mate of mine had one and it was known as Noddy the Bastard. Noddy because when you had it on tick over the head light and screen assembly would nod. Bastard because it was a sports single and ... you get the picture.

There's a picture of a splendid example on this web page.

Just for you youngsters ;) this is a continental gt and possibly the first production built cafe racer . Had it for 15 years but just put fairing on ( I like to get things sorted straight away :hehe: )

I had a Continental GT, probably the fastest brit 250 single around, 5 speed box too (but they were shite and used to break) sadly a lot were chopped since Triumph unit 350/500 motors fitted them without too much agro. Looked good with the bacon slicer cooling fins on the front brake drum 8-)
BMW R100 fork internals are almost a straight fit into the RE forks, handling is even better then ;)

Gander and Gray used to get regular postal orders from me

(I think Mojomick had one of these in his yoof as well)

Anders, serious head on, I am looking for a cafe racer at the mo, but I've decided I'll stick to my original plan of 60s British, sorry to get your hopes up.

I have a few British bikes which are great but with the Bullet you have the best of both , with 60`s style and 90`s reliability and no oil leaks . As you know there are a few really nice ones about , hope you find the one you want .

Yes indeed. I swapped my immaculate Fizzy for 6 boxes of bits when I was 17. My Dad worked at Dennis Bros. in Guildford, so the tank and battery cover got a nice fresh coat of Fire Engine Red. The trim shop also recovered the seat like new.
I spent many a happy hour on the train/underground getting to Gander and Gray to collect parts (I only had a photocopy of a parts list, no manual) and the first time I built the engine, I omitted the seal in the primary case that gave the big end it's oil pressure. :o :oooops: In my defence, there was a black smudge on the exploded view of the engine on my A4 copy, so I missed it.
It expired on the A31 near Alton as I was on my way to the Autojumble at Beaulieu and I had to put it on the train (after a 4 mile push) to get home.
The second build went much smoother and I covered a lot of miles on it, before I bought a '69 Bonnie with some redundancy money.

In 'Big Head Bullet' spec aka the Enfield 'Fury', they could keep up with Goldies, Thruxton/Clubman Velos, etc but were known to batter their big ends. Do the 'new' Enfields still use the floating bush bearing in the big end? I know the ones with the new engine design use rollers.

Yes they still use the floating bush but I think the oil pump has been improved .Mine has the uprated pump but not many club members as far as I remember have had any major problems with big ends  So there you have it an absloute bargain best be quick I`m thinking of buying it myself !!
