I'm a newbie to the site so please bear with me for any unusual behaviour, the petrol fumes in my garage have gone to my head and usual thought patterns do not flow thru my grey matter, i am in the process of building my first harley sportster based bobber/chop in my garage but this will be a few more years in the making, the call of the wild has arrived again this summer and regret of selling my zx7r last autumn has hit hard,
i have always loved the quirkiness of the buell xb12 and have cash waiting for the right toy, problem is, there are none left!!!!!!!!!!
i understand the model has its problems but i am not scared of skint knuckles or bathing in oil,
if anybody could let me know what to look out for when buying or any 'must have' upgrades i always appreciate the input of a veteran,
looking forward to becoming part of the community,

Half of them have been destroyed to build bobbers/ chops, and the other half have gone to Germany, where they are appreciated :P

Oh, and I've got two of them over here :ner:

PS - Welcome :sun:

:ffs: i have been thinking of importing one from usa, but going by the import tax on harley parts, it would probably bump the price over what i could get a good one here :( ,
i have a budget of about £6,000
looking for a xb12scg but i could live with a long,
will post some pics of the bobber when i get the wheels back on, (off for powder coat)

They're becoming scarcer year by year, which is why it's important to keep ear 'oling on here! I can see them becoming very sought after when 2019 passes..

Keep searching & good luck!!

I'm always confused as to why people use Buells (particularly XBs) as a based for these sorts of bikes. I would have thought that actual Harley Sportsters would be easier to get these days, and would lend themselves to this sort of conversion more easily.
Over here, Sporties are about the same price as Buells.
There must me something I'm missing.

Buells are generally cheaper in the UK than Sportsters, and the Buell engine is far superior, so I guess it's a no brainer :P

Hi,

I've recently aquired a XB12 Long after many years of searching / waiting for the right one to come along. As Bonzo sez; you should have no problem with a budget of 6K. Infact there is a couple on Ebay atm including a post 2008 (engine upgrade) model: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008-BUELL-XB-12S-LIGHTNING-25th-Anniversary-Signature-Edition-RED-/151064216289?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item232c2102e1#ht_327wt_1170

My adivce is: If you see one you are interested in then go see it ASAP. Without a word of lie I went to see mine the day it was advertised. When I picked it up a week later I was informed that I beat a German importer by a couple of hours. As Bonzo sez again... guess they really appreicate them out there!!

Good luck with your search.

Si.

Just a heads up if you are looking for a Buell XB and don't mind importing one. Try Switzerland. I live here and have seen plenty of XB`s up for sale. Swiss owners tend to look after the bikes pretty well and you could even ride it home? The price seems pretty firm at the moment for Buells though!

Check these sites http://www.ricardo.ch and http://www.motorradhandel.ch

Also try here http://www.moto-center-winterthur.ch/oc ... naked-bike

The STT was nice. I was even tempted myself..

I'm a Newbie and looking forwards to chatting on here.
I have just bought a tidy 07 XB12 advertised on ebay that just happened to be 2 miles from home! A quick word and it was withdrawn for a private sale!!
Need Insurance now, sell my CBX and Hornet to make room in my Man Cave
