I think I have read that 2008 model xb's are pre wired for heated grips is this the same for pre 2008 models, I am thinking of fitting some for winter riding

Don't matter if they are or not, wiring up heated grips is very straight forward...

From the ignition power take off with an in-line fuse.....

An be putting in an auxiliary socket fer yer heated waistcoat at the same time...

Yer core temperature is what you need to keep up....

With only heated grips on a long winter ride yer hands will take more blood away from the core and this will have the effect of lowering yer core temperature....

But don't expect any heated grip to be that warm....

Hand-guards are also recommended...

I never thought I'd use heated grips, but when the 2008 XT came with them as standard, I used them because they were there, and am happy now to use them now on the 'strada. Hand guards too, I thought they were something that belonged on a feckin' scooter, but by 'eck they make a winter journey so much more comfortable. Never had heated clothing, and probably never will, I find having warm hands and good gear is plenty for me.

Looks like you will need to go your own way...



Instead of cutting the plug off like I did, you can buy a plug, terminals and seals from BB...

Bought head to toe leccy clothing to fly a non heated experimental aeroplane across the Atlantic at 28,000 ft a few years ago....worked great but haven't worn it since....seems like a faff on the bike....heated grips and heated seat on the BM work great.....

I've never understood the heated grip thing... to get any benefit, surely you must be wearing rubbish gloves?
Tried some heated gloves at the NEC yesterday, now those I do understand.

With heated grips you require gloves that are well insulated on the back but not too thick on the palms.
They are good in spring and autumn when still wearing summer gloves and the temp suddenly drops

Never found a solution to winter hands - the tips of my fingers are always cold.

So this winter I'm trying these -

They look fine; you never hear a lobster complaining about the cold do you.
