Hi to you all.

I'm thinking of buying a Buell that I've been to see, just trying to find out a bit of information about them using your forum. The Buell will join a Honda CB1000R, a Yamaha SDR200 and Kawasaki tripple in the garage already.

I tried to buy a Buell when the XB9R came out many years ago but was very unimpressed by an unhelpful dealer who told me there was a waiting list, and that if I wanted one I'd have to pay list price plus to get myself on the list. I spent a lot less and bought a 900 Hornet instead. Several years on I've come across Buel again and wonder what I've missed.

The only big-twin I've ridden is a Hopnda Firestorm, so I have no idea what to expect of a Buell, but I like the ideas used in their design.

I'll post some pictures if the sale goes through, and doubtless start asking loads of daft questions. :D

A Buell will put a grin on your face that doesn,t come off. Brakes won't be as sharp as sportier jap tackle but the bike weighs bugger all and they are good enough to pull stoppies.
Picture minimalist biking - 2 wheels, grunty motor, clonky gearbox and sweet handling.
Never tried the XB9 but can vouch for the 12.
Get one lOl

What model and year are you thinking of buying and for what sort of money.. ?

Giving those details might help you make an informed decision :)

Hi Arlurt. I've never ridden a Hopnda (although I hear they're good), but I'd never ridden a Buell until 3 years ago, when I took an XB12SX Lightning for a test. At first, I thought it was so weird - you cant see the front wheel, so it's a bit like flying. What a revelation! It's an amazing bike; incredible handling, noise (thanks to an Albert exhaust - look him up here - he's Albert 666), and as everybody on here says, it's the grin factor. Don't hesitate, just buy one. The guys on here will help you with any problems as they're a great bunch. :yup:

I’ve jumped in and bought a 2005 Buell XB12R, :D the black one that I’m sure some of you will have seen it on eBay. I’d been to see another XB12R, also on eBay, at Viva Moto in Bradford but couldn’t agree a price, something that was made easier by the fact that I didn’t think that particular red bike was for me. Much happier with the one I’ve bought. I also went to see the 1125R that’s in Castleford, but preferred the older, simpler air-cooled bike to the hi-tech newer liquid-cooled version.

The one I’ve bought is a 2004 bike, first registered in 2005, just short of 12,000 miles. It has some modifications, a “Stealth” exhaust, an ECU map change, an engine breather mod, a different drive belt tensioner, and different brake & clutch levers. I know what most of these are, but what does the engine breather mod do for me? Is there a problem with the breather pumping oil out?

I’m hoping that the bike won’t need anything doing to it, so I can amuse myself cleaning and taking it apart until the weather’s better. Obviously, if there’s a dry day I have it out for a spin.

I’ll post a few pictures when I’ve got my hands on it.
