Has anyone had any experience with Autocom bike to bike comms kit? It would be good to have a decent system and this stuff looks good, and not to mention expensive - I've done some research on it and have read loads of good stuff about the L1 Logic system.

I'd be interested in peoples views on them if they have used them.

Cheers

Me n't Mrs thought about getting one but then I back peddled.
All I would get would be "slow down" "do you have to go fast all the time" " think I saw a camera" " I want a wee".
I suggested loud cans would make it difficult to hear whats been said etc :yup:

Nate.

many moons ago the wife and I had a rider to pillion kit. I bought it for a trip we where taking to the south of France. It lasted till Dover and at that time i only lived in Surrey! The kit was good but the bloody drivell that the wife kept spouting made me pull the plug!!!!!!!
Don't do it!!!! enjoy the sound of the bike not the banter!

Leaving aside the marital issues, the Autocom units are fabulous kit, although I don't use bike to bike or pillion, just for the phone, MP3, GPS.

Last time I used it, the person at the other end complained about the drop in quality when I got off the bike! Open lid works to about 50, closed lid I've never had a problem.

This is the phone conversation with the missus when I first fitted it:

Norm: OK, the engine's running, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Nope, nothing.
Norm: I'm doing about 20 with the lid open, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Nope, nothing.
Norm: 40 with the lid open, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Nope, nothing.
Norm: OK, 60 with the lid open, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Yeah, there's just a bit of noise in the background now.
*close lid*
Norm: How about now with the helmet shut, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: Nope, nothing.
Norm: I'm doing about 100 now, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: 100! I can't hear anything but should you be going that fast?
Norm: I'm just testing this. Can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: How fast are you going?
Norm: Details details, can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: How fast are you going
Norm: Faster than last time I asked and I'm still accelerating. Can you hear anything?
Mrs Norm: I'm hanging up now...

Sadly, that's a true story.

I picked my "pro-rider" kit up last year at the NEC show. It was about £130, IIRC, with everything needed for bike, rider and pillion. I spent another £60 getting a bluetooth dongle, and it all just works. Fecking brilliant.

Cheers Norm V funny  As we will both be on separate bikes we'll be concentrating on riding (hopefully) so chat will be kept to the minimum, just the essentials passed - with a bit of luck we will keep good comms discipline and just enjoy the bikes :D

I've ordered the kit so the next test will be fitting it to our lids and sussing how we will carry the hubs and radios :?

what set up did you go for ?

If you don't need MP3, GPS and phone then you don't need the hub parts just run the radios with the PTT set up ?

I went for the L1 Logic for both bikes - I wanted the option for the phone & MP3 + didn't want to have to 'press to talk' as it is a pain to have something wired into and attached to the bikes. With the hub and radio we can just put them in a tank bag or daysack, therefor nothing needs to be connected or wired to the bikes.

I'll see how it works out, hopefully it'll be fine.

Yeah, you are... oops, *clears throat* Yeah, you are probably right. If crap means only £130 buys the kit for rider and pillion, easy enough to install that even a twat like me can fit them, perfect vox straight from the box, outstanding communication quality, automatically muting music when a phone call comes in, it's fecking abysmal, I tell you.

Shouting louder doesn't make you righter, Rev. :D

I was, indeed, not on the Buell.

I should probably point out that all figures quoted are in kph, I was a professional rider on a closed road under controlled conditions and don't speed, children, because speed kills. Yeah, right.
