So, what exactly interested you in joining UKBEG, you dont ride, dont have a bike (or any gear). Of all the millions of forums on the internet, why pick an obscure brand of motorcycle and its humble forum to suddenly join and jump straight into banter on ... ?

You have posted nout about yourself in way of any sort of hello or introduction either ...

Hi Ash,

I may have gone to Uni in Portsmouth but that doesn't mean that I'm anti Southampton folk so hello to you too!

My reason for being here is that I've finally exited the day to day grind of working weekends and bank holidays after over a decade with one company that took away my social life and want it back...

I hail from Hastings and St. Leonards home to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPE6e8GR ... re=related which is as I'm sure many will know an annual event where there's a lot going on and Jack in the Green festival too.

I used to love hopping on the back of mates bikes down there :D but time has passed, ppl move on and I don't live there anymore. I visit briefly about 3 or 4 time a year if lucky with barely enough time for family before having to be back at work for the easter and xmas jan sales.

I have some leathers, just not the specific type for wearing on bikes. If I was with a biker I'd definitely have some but I can't drive and you can't blame a gal for getting epilepsy before she's old enough to learn to drive???

My other half drinks too much to warrant me getting him a bike and doesn't even look after the car I got him for us.

So i've been slowly getting to know ppl on here on a one to one basis in my quest to meet some new kindred spirits who love bikes, rock and having fun :-).

No I've only had the BM for about 4 months (thats a record for me) done a couple of European trips on it and nows its time for a change. I've had about 26 bikes in 5 years but the most fun bikes have always been naked.

Dal, ask specific questions and I can give specific answers, in the past there have been members on here that have taken no notice of sage advice from those experienced in Buell related topics, and there are others that have already made up their minds, regardless of what they are told ...

I have owned a total of 4 buells and have loved them all - the 1125 models being the best of them all IMO, but there have been others that have done nothing but whinge from the moment they started posting on this site.

To be honest, if I could only have one bike (I don't own a car, bikes are my only transport), then a Buell would not be my first choice - purely due to the horror stories that get posted on Buell forums ! Trouble is, if I have a problem, I have other bikes to choose from, so it isn't really an issue to me. My CR has not yet left me stranded except for punctures, and you cannot blame the marque for that - having said that there are known problems with these models that will probably occur at some point, the clutch leak is the most common, but it shouldn't leave you stranded as long as you check the bike regularly, it's just an inconvenience whilst it is being repaired, although Erik Buell Racing may have come up with a solution. The biggest perceived problem is the stator, which has been known to fail, but coming from an Aprilia background you may well be aware of the issue, the Mille suffered the same malaise ...

Thanks for all the info, when you say clutch leak, is it a hydraulic leak or and oil leak? As for the stator no idea what that is :oooops: what ever it is I never had it go on any of the Aprilia's. The problems I had with the Aprilia's were a heavy clutch, small leak from the clutch master cylinder, rear brakes seldom work, clocks would mist up and you could never find Neutral :| but nothing to serious. Is the stator expensive? And is there an upgrade?

The other bikes on my not so short list are the Ducati S4rs, Triuph Speed Triple, MV Brutale, Benelli TNT 1130, Suzuki B King KTM Superduke and Kawasaki Z1000 (2009 on)

Dal, there are a fair few with the same issue, I think ... !! its the hydraulics that leak. Ray and others are testing a new fix for this made by Oberon and its looking good :yup:

and for clarity ...

Quote:
Clutch slave cylinder leaks either externally or internally depending on which year/upgrade is fitted ie. empties the master cylinder.......even the 2010 models do this with the latest upgrade fitted.....a reputable aftermarket company is currently testing a fix.
Stator windings burn out which renders the charging system defunct......replacement OEM items do the same again

If you're only going to keep it for such a short time, what's the problem? UK Buell Enthusiasts not road testers? :yup:

So, how many miles do expect to log whilst owning a Buell ?

The clutch leak may not be an issue !

Seriously, as long as you keep an eye on the fluid level it shouldn't be an issue - it's more of an annoyance - but it will need fixing if you want to sell the bike ...

The point is to find something I like so I can keep it, I haven't yet found anything that ticks all the box's.
