Hi guys, convince me I am right,I currently ride a BMW F650GS with the 798cc twin engine and I am l contemplating selling it in the next month or so to buy a Ulysses XB12XT. I have been test riding all sorts of bikes lately,Tiger 1050,Tiger XC,Kawasaki Z1000SX, BMW R1200R and then I rode a Uly....blew my mind, handling was great, power was great, noise was too loud, fan was annoying, right leg was burning, comfiest bike I have been on - common sense tells me NO! but I really liked the quirkieness.I am looking at a 2008 model price wise but would stretch to a 2009-is there any real difference? Some spec sheets suggest better economy with a 2008 model. The one I rode had the Remus exhaust on it and hadn`t been mapped accordingly,I would really like it a bit quieter so suggestions please and answer-is the standard exhaust a good bit quieter? Nice neighbours to think about on early Sunday mornings-you know the score.See a lot of stuff about naff HD gaskets etc,do the later models resolve this issue or what are you better doing as soon as you get the bike. Am I off my heed going after this bike??????????? :?

Possibly right on the mpg figures, my mates 08 Lightning always does about 5 or 6 miles more on a gallon than my 09 XT that has the later ecm flash < the annoying one where the fan runs constantly above about 15 mph>. Even if we swop bikes figures stay the same so its not down to riding style, but an earlier bike could have the later flash on the ecm.
My XT is a bigger and heavier bike than his Lightning scg so this would also have an impact on the figures I guess. They are not the best bikes if you do alot of miles in slow traffic as the fuelling can be a bit rough at low speeds and they get rather warm in slow traffic on a hot day, but out on the open road they are great so go for it.

Yes, you just had a really bad dream......I would never reccommend that anyone with any sense bought an XB.......what I did say was that if someone was feeling particularly stupid, they should reduce the pain involved and go for a pre 08 model

I agree with everything Digger said in his PM lOl And if you should decide to go for the black one on Ebay it's a damned fine motorcycle 8-)

(and in case anyone should wonder, no, I didn't see the PM or confer lOl )
