After getting and fitting my new headlight from Garrett, I confess that all the previous comments I've seen on the XB candle are correct, still shit :!:

Anyone looking to offload an HID unit, or know which is best to buy? Is it worth paying the pennies for a slimline unit, Seems to be enough room behind the headlight?

i did ask tubbs for his opinion on putting a HID unit on my Uly recently;

he was not taken with the idea as they have a habit of melting the reflectors and can sometimes interfere with the bikes brain.

two people have recently had the twin H4 upgrade from simpson-detour ( or something similar ) which they were impressed with.

if i wasnt just about to emigrate with the bike i would probably get that done myself.

Having just replaced the headlight 'cause of knackered reflectors, Not wanting to chance a repeat. Will make do the now, Maybe consider some extra spots or something :)

If the bits arrive from HongKong - I may have an alternative. I did see somewhere (ebay?) Spots that mount to the fork legs

If you were closer - I have a shed load of HID bits.

125 / pair does sound a lot - i would want to be convinced they show me the right bit of the road before parting with that

I like the look of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spot-Lights-50mm-Fork-Mount-Fits-Buell-X1-Lightning-XB-/150628021663#ht_9732wt_1024

For decent spotlights and brackets I don't think that's expensive

I've had the cheapo Halfords ones (Ring?) and they corrode pretty quickly

Yep, that's the ones, I'm just a skin-flint Eugene,
Object to paying almost the same amount as a new headlight unit from HD (£130 from dealer) just to get what you should have in the first place, LIGHT :!:
Will keep scouring local ads and evilBay for a bargain :D

What I did discover is that pretty much ANY aftermarket HID unit is illegal, Unless you're replacing the entire headlight unit and it's self levelling (needs washers too, but I think that's just cars). This is the Dept of Transports own info - http://www2.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/d ... lamps.html

Really? My GS has HID lights and it's gotten through 3 MOTs just fine?

Suppose it depends who's looking,
If the light is set properly I reckon nobody would bother, but if it's dazzling folk it might get you a ticket :?:
Like exhausts possibly, Pretty sure we all know where to go to get MOTs no problem with proper loud pipes :D
