That's a bit far from Bristol to be sure. Isn't there anyone closer that is appreciated by people on this site?

I live in Portsmouth, and bought my XB from Black Bear (thanks Steve.. :4roz: ) and have just had it serviced (5,000 miles) there last weekend. Well worth the travel, stop over in a hotel and ride home.... Peace of mind from a good job done is well worth the cost of a hotel overnight anyday..... Thanks Steve! x

Although I hate to say to say it - I would have to think twice before buying a 1125R as an only bike. Although they are great bikes it will take a few thousand miles to iron the bugs out of it - you really will need an understanding dealer with the appropriate Buell experience - and they are few and far between, and from what I have read from various sources it does not include a certain west country dealer ! This of course means time off the road, so, unless you can persuade your "friendly" dealer to loan you a bike, you will be without 2 wheels for a while, and since Buell's demise, parts take longer to come through. Having said that my 2008 R was never "laid up", even with a leaking clutch slave it was still ridable. Having said that my 2010 CR is off the road waiting for a clutch seal as it has a different clutch leak problem !

But when they go, they go very well !

As for commuting, I use my R to commute ( 10 miles each way ) without any issues, just make sure that you take some time out to set up the suspension properly, as it can make a big difference to the ride quality.

Oh, and welcome ! :) :D 8-)

I am in Bristol and don't rate Riders at all for servicing.
I know it seems a long way to go but make a day of it and arrange to meet some other members at BB. Not sure if taking it to Maz is possible when its under warranty but if it is then that would be another option but again quite a distance but you want to ride the bike some to get the best from it.

Oh and if your on the ring road look out for a High Vis wearing supermoto rider going into Bristol cos it might be me. I used to use my XB for everyday commuting but the finish wasn't up to it so it was retired to high days and holidays and to be pampered a bit. Not sure that will be an issue with the 1125 apart from the exhaust perhaps.

I would use Maz for Buell servicing whether under warranty or not. If you check your handbook it will tell you that the warranty will not be affected as long as it is serviced to Buell guidelines and with genuine Buell parts.

Soon, Buells will but all be forgotten by the Harley Davidson / Buell dealers, and the sense would be to focus support on the independants that have supported Buell since the beginning and have built up the experience of working on only those products.

The only thing Maz will not be able to do (but I am happy to be corrected) is to carry out recall work and reflashing of the ECM (however I wont imagine there will be any more reflashes now), but this is work you don't pay for anyway.

Maz's work is based on not only his experiences, but the experiences of many many owners, with custom fixes to replace parts which are no longer available or parts which are known not to work particularly well. How many dealers can say the same?

Well worth the ride to see him, you will learn far more from him watching the bike being fettled than sitting in a cafe waiting for the work to be completed...

The cost of visiting him putting you off? His hourly rate is a mere fraction of a franchised dealer. My 1125R first service was 2 hours of work, if I was paying for it myself, Maz's cost would have been £120 less, which would pay for the hire of a van and fuel and you would still have money left over for dinner for you and the missus...

And one more thing, I recently bought a bike that Maz has serviced from day one, and it really is a pleasure to work on. I help out a number of Buell owners around the Bristol area, and the amount of siezed fasteners I see is beyond belief. The ex-Maz serviced bike has fasteners that glide in an out on Copa-Slip, which shows the care and attention to detail he invests in YOUR bike, despite his public outbursts about how he hates XBs.

If I did not look after my Buell myself, Maz would have the work, no doubt... And for the work I can't do myself, it already goes to Maz...

I've owned over 60 bikes in the last 35 years and have hardly been near a Dealer for anything except parts and I agree with Pash whole heartedly. When I get out of my depth with a Buell, it's always comforting to know that Maz will know the answer - as for servicing etc, no one will do it better :yup: As for price, no one will beat him on that either. You'll also walk out of the Emporium knowing much more about your bike too.
He holds a vast stock of parts as well 8-)

I've had my 1125R for a year, and it's been used for commuting (40 mile round trip), trackdays and I'll be taking it on its second european trip including the nurburg ring in a week and a halfs time. Had my 12k, 6k and first service all done at Oxford, along with all the warrenty work that was required. Oxford are my local dealer and their customer service has been absolutely spot on.

The biggest draw back of using a main dealer is the fact that the courtesy bikes tend to be tractors

I noticed Oxford on the HD website along with Cheltenham as closer locations.

Been checking with insurance companies this evening. They asked me,

"What kind of immobiliser does it have?"

"Built in by Buell" I reply.

"Don't have 'built in' on the computer. Which brand is it?"

"Buell brand" I say.

Don't have 'buell' on the computer.

Same question from three different firms. If I can get the right type to them I can get the insurance down a little more but what I do I tell them?

In addition, does anyone have any recommended alarm system for the bike which the insurance people like?

Buells and alarms do not go well together.

Alarms usually save you about 5-10% on your insurance.
Data tool system 4 costs about £350-400 fitted.
You need to way up the cost if it's worth it. All bikes I've had with alarms have been a pain in the arse.
My tuono is 6 months old it's been back 3 times because of the alarm next time it goes in I'm having it removed.
