Post subject:  XB12R Belt Tension

Just had the dealership fit a new belt (warranty, thank God!) to my '07 XB12R. The previous one snapped at 16,000 kms. There is almost zero play in the new belt, and I can't turn the tensioner pulley by hand. Is this how it should be? With the old belt, the pulley turned by hand very easily. Don't want to be snapping another belt. Thanks!

:yt:

And when you get it make sure the spring guide is not to long thus stopping it's function!

Nate.

Mine is nice and loose O'er missus. So should I expect it to snap soon?

Is their any way to tell when the belts are going to go?

Check the rear sprocket teeth for marks where stones have been stuck on the belt, and check the outer surface for irregularities where stones are embedded (where there is a lot of tension in the belt, there is no compliance to the foreign objects and they generally get pressed into the belt - another reason for an FS Tensioner).

I have just fitted a black FST on my Uly. Yes I know it is a bit late in the day but got it now :). Looks like it could work well so I hope it will help some. Looks nice in black as well.

On fitting it I noted that a stone, or more but very small though, has got into the belt system. There are small marks, in the middle, of the drive sprocket, belt and pulley. It had none on the drive sprocket and pulley after the last belt change. Well not a change but a new one after the last one broke .

The pulley bearings are fine and the belt looks to be in good condition.
