Having just taken delivery of my new xb12ss I note that the drive belt is like a bow string, ready to kill my gearbox/rear wheel bearings. Does anyone know why Buell run these belts so tight??. When I had my X1 I had the belt on the slack side without any problems. Any constructive comments please!

Have a look in the How To for fitting a FS tensioner.

Thanks Pash

Will be fitting one of these tensioner soonest, but am still at a loss for the reason that after nearly 10 years from my X1 (at least you could adjust the wheel) to my new bike and after loads of press comments about belts snapping and short life when they first come out with the X9 they still produced a bikes with a non adjusting tensioner. (Or will this just be another of life’s great mysteries)

I remember reading somewhere, I think on this forum, that Erik had said the belt tension was so tight as that was what was recommended by the manufacturer...

But yeah, I know where you are coming from.

Feel sorry for the 1125 owners...

I think that all belts are tight when first installed, they do seem to loosen up a little with use so I should imagine that they stretch a tiny bit and also bed in a little so that they mesh with the pulleys better.

I think somebody should bring out a spring loaded pulley for the 1125 ;)

Maz - as soon as you are selling a belt tensioner for the 1125R I will have one off you straight away, if I can ever get over to your shop.
