First post, good moring to you all.

I'm trying to revive an 03 XB12S with a damaged frame. I've found an XB9 frame. Question is, will it fit my XB12S?

The frame I've been offered is part number L0602.3A8 and desrcibed as suitable for a XB9R/SX. Is it just a mtter of different colour, or is the frame different physically in some way. Further, are there any differences between model years. Mine is an early one on a 53 plate.

Cheers in advance.

Why don't you sell your XB12 as a wreck, or part it out, and buy another one.

Saves all the fannying about...

Hi Tim O
your 53 will have a hole through the frame where the air intake comes through so providing the new frame has a hole through it on the left hand side then the only difference is the colour, should be an easy swap over.

Has your bike been written off & has the frame got to be destroyed? or can you use the same vin number and reg?

good luck
Woz

yes as Pash says it has the intake hole through the frame so should fit fine. :yup:
If you've not stripped an XB that far before Tim O there could be a little :headbang: as I said before good luck ;)

Pash you mean to say you wouldn't like a little winter project :?:

Some are longer than others; STT, X and Ss Long (?) are longer than R, S and Sx. Note that the 9 (silver frame) only came as an R, S and Sx and that the longer frames were not around in 2003 and were never available on a 9 (think they came in in 2006 but someone will come and correct me if I am wrong).

The hole in the frame got covered up in 2006 giving a slightly increased fuel capacity. If you have a trawl through the forum, you will see that the hole was there for turbo charging.

Many thanks for all your replies. I quite fancy a project, and a frame swap should be easy enough. I've done something similar before when I rebuilt a heavily crashed Honda RVF400 (fractured headstock!) and have a decent workshop, bike lift, tools etc.

I have to confess to being slightly 'economic with the actualite' though. I haven't actually bought the XB12 yet. I'm negotiating with the owner but need to do my homework before committing.

However, still a bit confused about the various Lighning models, can someone enlighten me. I know there are long and short wheelbase models, but I don't know which is which:

S - short?
Ss - short?
Sx - long?
SCg - long?

And was it the same for the XB9 version?

And is the frame I've found a short or long? (I'm assuming by the age that my bike would be a 'short' model)

Again, many thanks.
