Location: on the back wheel in bony scotland
has anybody changed an xb9 engine into a 12?? can it be done?? I believe bore size is same, so difference is stroke, can a 12 crank be fitted into 9 c/case??
if yes, are g/pins,c/chamber,valves,in/ex port sizes,injectors, th/body, the same on both engines??
any help, advise,link to an informative read appreciated. Tam

Yes it can be done. A loan from the RBS would help some.

Yes it can be done. A loan from the RBS would help some.

superb I thought so. as for cost I dont see it costing as much as buying a 12 engine if I shop carefully+I do my own spanner work=no labour cost. its more about doing something interesting, cant stand that crap on telly,
anybody got a good 12 crank/rods lying about they want some coin for?? :4roz: hurry before santa empties my paypal :ill:

There is a breakers/parts website based in the uk where you post your requirements and its sent to hundreds of breakers - cant remember the name - try google - if you find a crashed bike then you're away !!

I've never played with XB mains but owing to their 'built to a cost design' ie shite :lol: I'd imagine setting them up correctly could be difficult and setting them up incorrectly would be very expensive. About as much fun as setting up the preload on Velocette mains ;) :lol: - where's our resident Velo man when you need him? :lol:

Different crank, pistons, throttle body,inlet manifold, exhaust, primary ratio.

RH/pinion shaft bearing is a complete nightmare to set up......you will have to be able to measure to 0.0001" and then grind/ lap to same, with a tolerance of 0.0002" for roundness and taper.

ahha a man with hands on experience of the job :yup: no point me lying to you the last bit I might need help with. I'll PM you about it if thats ok??

in what way are pistons different, height from crown to wrist pin??

primary is it different in a good way, lower making the bike feel brisk accelerating??

would I be right thinking cams are slightly different as 9 making max power slightly higher up revs would suggest this??

please correct me if wrong, my thought are 12.1 comp. 98ron fuel.900 cams.900 primary. make big headers. sort out the fueling, should make a bike that feels a wee bit brisker when I open throttle. not looking to create a monster. that would be boost lOl ;)
which brings me to can the standard crank ect take it?
right now I'm just looking at all the options, obviously you do a lot of work on buell's do you also break them for parts?? would you have a complete short motor to sell??

keep the 9 motor and fit 1050 barrels and you will have a nice strong (ish) motor and imo better than a 12 motor all day long

ah, really, where do 1050 barrels come from, ie what engine/age ect. I'm new to harley buell engines. mostly s/ch car engine I do, but need a change and love messing about with a bike so here I am. any help. advice. options. please feel free.
this came about as I'v bought an xb900r that has knackered g/box, so thinking if going in to fix it might as well do something interesting while there,

yep thats what I intend to do, then decide from there. just trying to learn what can be done if/when time come's.
that link gm posted I take it thats the 1050 barrels you spoke of??
