Need to rebuild a set of Showas fitted to my S1. Can I get away with new seals, or do I need a complete set of bushing and guides. If so, where is the cheapest source of parts, or should I stick to the HD dealer nertwork? Thanks in advance for the flurry of advice.

If it is X1 forks Maz stocks all the parts for a complete rebuild at very reasonable prices (got a full set myself last week) unfortunately he doesn't do mail order so you'd need to get them picked up from him.

Maxton, however, do "do" mail order....and a jolly good job they make of the forks too....

The kit costs about £50-60. Maxton charge in the hundreds. Not really a like for like comparison.

Thanks for the advice, will contact Maz. Rebuild necessitated by badly corroding outers, so hopefully, seals will suffice on there own.

I'll probably be rebuilding mine in the near future - do you need a fancy driver to fit the seals or is there a "simples" substitute anyone knows of?

I made one of these using bits from my Blue Peter box...

Used the lower casting to drive the seal in... Goes in easier if you heat up the stantion (bigger tube) with a paint stripper...

...true, but why not fit the best that you can obtain? All a rebuild kit will do is take them back to soggy factory stock?

Because most people can't outperform the standard Showa shocks. Only the racers will feel the benefit.
