Hey,

I bought an 2002 XB9R in April with 3K miles, was well happy :D . It soon went all wrong. :(

A bit of history:

It was sitting in a garage for 3 year before I got it. My first 500 miles fule pump packed in, Bought a new one and got new tyers fitted. After tyers were fitted it didn't seem to be as quick of the mark.

Another 30 miles belt drive snapped doing 90mph  . Got new belt fitted in garage. I picked it up and went for a tour but couldn't get passed 2nd gear :headbang: Guy in garage said it's big job, gotta strip whole engine to get to gear box £££££££££££

The bike is running well in 1st & 2nd but just doesn't want to go into 3rd.

Anyone had the same problem???

Any suggestions??

Couldn't resist the banana dance

It sounds like you have had a milder version of what happened to me: on mine the gearbox locked up on me at 70mph which caused a little anxiety as I tried to keep the bike upright. From what I remember there was an issue with 4th gear failing and a big risk that the bits of gear would jam the rest of the gearbox.

Your mate is correct that to repair the gearbox you have to dismantle the whole of the engine.

I would not use the bike, at all, until this is fixed or you decide that it is scrap. Fixing it will not be cheap. :santa: told me that it is about 40 man hours to eviscerate the gearbox and rebuild it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
