Can you drop a ZTL2 Calliper set straight on to a 2007 bike and is it worth it???

You will need a new master cylinder... And possibly a hose.

Dirty John did it on his XB12R and he thought it was worth it IIRC...

Probably not worth the expense unless you also add a Helicon motor

Would it eventually warp an 07 brake disk or are they all the same ... ?

I would change the brake fluid and experiment with different pads first ...

They are the same. There is a thicker aftermarket one for racing and a "finned" aftermarket one as an admission that they get hot (and pad material sticks to them)...

As noted I fitted a calliper and master cylinder to my XB12R, as soon as the 1125R parts book came out, massive improvement and well worth it - had to get a new hose, got it from HEL which was the cheapest option, just told them the length and the end fittings I wanted.

Brake disc is the same as the 1125R etc but I had fitted a wavy rotor anyway and I had already tried pads from Trojan in the six pot, these were an improvement but not as great as when I changed up to the 8 pot etc

Still got the old master cylinder and 6 pot calliper with pads if anyone wants them with only 2000 miles use

How much did it cost DJ.

as for cost from memory it was about £100 for the master cyl, £ £250 for the calliper c/w standard pads and £40 for the hose.

all the receipts are at home and I am away at work at the moment, will post the exact costs next week since I don't have internet at home.

I have had the 8 pot caliper with hose and master cylinder on my XB12R all summer........its great. Two things to mention though. The pad area is a poor match to the 'Braking' wave disc causing on/off braking feel due to the disc to pad area fluctuating as the waves rotate. I am going to re-fit the std disc this week. Secondly since fitting the 8 pot the steering notceably 'falls in' turning the wheel to the right......The 8 pot is heavier that the 6 pot. I don't think anyone has mentioned this. Finally I would say that in the 'real'world the 6 pot is perfectly adequate on an XB9/12. I bought the kit for fun and oneupmanship .......hahaahah.

delft - interesting that you state that you got brake pulsing with a wavy rotor.
I fitted a wavy rotor to my XB12R at the same time as I fitted the 8 pot and m/cyl and never brake pulsing and I really like to brake hard, comes from riding a two stroke when I was a lad and we used to howl up to corners and at the last minute stand on the brakes and then throw it into the bends with a bit of trail braking.
Took the wavy rotor off the XB12R when I sold it and transferred it to the 1125R.
I will never go back to the standard rotor.
Yep I did notice a slight slow down in the turn in you are right but the better braking more than makes up for it - I had done full braking emergency stops with the XB12R on quiet roads in the dry and to be honest I wanted better brakes, in my view improving the brakes is the first on the agenda before any other mods I make to a bike.

Great reply and good input. I will check my Wave disc for warp! I agree with you that good braking is a must and after my GSX1000 the std Buell set-up had a different feel and less sensitivity. You get plenty of this with the 8 pot.
