Ultra sonic cleaning.

Post subject:  Ultra sonic cleaning.
I’ve seen a 30l cleaning tank up for sale, and know nothing about them. Are they only good for carbs and other delicate stuff, or could you put a head and barrel in there and expect it to remove carbon, paint and other baked on gunge completely?

I used one at work to clean the gummed-up carbs on my XL600R and it worked a treat. Not sure if it would remove carbon from a head (it might) but I don’t imagine it would remove paint.

You clean it as best as possible and then find loads of fine stuff left behind

The offending particles need to be soluble in the solution you're using to clean with. You'll have to sand or blast off anything else, like carbon buildup.

I have a small cleaner still from my days of drafting with Kohinoor technical pens back in the 80s. Good for cleaning those .13 and .18 mm tips then. Now, it's good for fitting a FCR float bowl and jets inside. Too small to put the whole carb in though.

got one that I have used for cleaning radio controlled model IC engines
works well even on the carbon , BUT this is nitromethane with synthetic two stroke oil base fuel deposits.
I use deionised water with a small amount of degreaser ( ebay )

I've got a 3 ltr one and it works fantastic for cleaning single carbs , a larger one would be ideal for cleaning banks of carbs though as you could fit them in complete. Amazingly fascinating to watch all the dirt and grime appearing from the jets and orificies
