I took the Uly out for my first long ride and it has a 'whine' when changing down to second. Disappears when down to first or up to third.

Not harsh enough to be called a screech but definitely something needs attention.

Otherwise brilliant ride and gearbox seems good

Any thoughts?

Just come back from another ride and it seems to be in a few gears now. I don't remember my old Sportster making this much noise.

Also - Bike is great under power but seems to stumble at low throttle openings. Is this a 'feature' ?

have you got a free spirits belt tensioner pulley ?
just wondering if its the belt making the noise ?

low throttle openings ?
they can lug a bit , rev it it's a Buell they are a wee bit different to sportsters
which are a lesser state of tune so a bit weak by comparison

Thanks for the reply
I think the bike is completely standard

2 owners 13000 miles service history by Warrs so presumably 'bog' standard

Is there a list anywhere on the forum that lists recommended mods?

 we may have covered these before :old:
a list as such normally is..

1. Free Spirits tensioner ,takes a bit of stress off the gearbox output shaft & the belt drive
2. Maz nipple mod , allows lubing of the small needle roller bearing in the gearbox
3. check your wheel bearings , they are spec. for lightness like the wheels BUT can wear a bit
4. Don't let any halfwits change your tyres , there is a left hand thread on the front spindle
& a hidden pinch bolt under the swing arm , & the torque settings are critical as there is a soft aluminium spacer between the wheel bearings in both wheels. also they treat rubber belts wrong & then damage them :sun:

And.?... any update?

not really any update yet
The bike has had a service at a local HD specialist and I rode it back today
still feels the same with jerky low speed throttle and the noise is still there

It goes like stink when the throttle is opened though

Are you relying on them to have checked/changed the primary oil?
Did they comment on the jerkiness/noise? ...presumably they test rode it and passed on their advisories?

TPS reset needed? That's an easy hit
Leaking intake seals? Easy to check - do a search how
Broken grey connector on the ECM - very common on 08/09/10 X and XT

Don't even think about taking the bike anywhere other than the Emporium would be sound advice.

If your looking to identify a strange sound, sound advice is the best option :old:
