Recently acquired '07 Ulysses. Few jobs to do on it I thought I would have a go at Maz's gearbox output shaft grease nipple mod - seems fairly straightforward.

Pulled the cover off to determine the state of play. Found this:

Once I got over the surprise of finding a chain I wonder if the mod has already been done? Some thoughts:
Its not the same! Little hole there. If I poke something in it goes in about 18mm.
How much oil pressure is there behind that plate? Not enough hence the mod I guess.
Could this be a fiendish strategy to lube the chain? By leaving the nipple out some spillage would do the job. Bit risky though.
If my surmises are correct then I would plan to squirt some lube in there every oil change and keep a closer eye on the gearbox oil level (or is that the same as the engine oil?).
