Post subject:  X1 Will not start.

Hi

My X1 won't start.

Last used it 5 days ago - no issues.
It has a full tank of super unleaded, thought i'd treat her on the return journey! big mistake

Went to use it today and it won't start, to be exact, the engine turns over and fires up, runs for literally a second then immediately stops, the same thing happens each time i hit the starter button.

The fuel pump sounds to be working, it has a new fuel filter, i tried removing filler cap thinking there maybe a vacuum??

Checked spark plugs seemed ok, slightly darker in colour than the lighter coffee colour they were before, but found the screw top terminal had unwound itself from the top of the spark plug on the rear cylinder, although that has no real bearing to this issue.

Anyone have any suggestions? Apart from burn it or should of bought Japanese, then again

What happens if you keep the clutch pulled in?
What happens if you disconnect the bank angle sensor?
Are the plugs wet or fouled (from shutting the engine down when cold)?
Can you check the fuel pressure?

Thanks for your reply Pash

Makes no change with or without clutch pulled in.
Will try disconnecting BAS, think i located it but couldn't see the plug connector itself, but tbh didn't spend too much time looking.
Spark plugs were not wet.
Don't have the a fuel pressure gauge.

After looking through the Trouble Shooting section in the manual  I need to find someone who knows Buells closer to home to sort this.

But it can sit on the naughty step until i can be arsed to do anything with it. ;)

The full tank is definitely petrol ? You wouldn't be the first and definitely wouldn't be the last if it isn't.

I will double check that for piece of mind, we run both petrol and diesel cars so normal aware when filling up.

I don't usually opt for using the super-grade fuel but thought i'd treat it. Am wondering if it's cleaned off any muck in the system and clogged something up??

Not had this bike long and it's doing a good job of emptying my bank account. I would love to keep this bike as i think they look and sound great, but reluctantly i think it's going to have to go.

Anyone hands on and wants an X1 PM me :sad1:

Hi

Slow update:

Can confirm no diesel in tank,
Disconnected BAS connector, still no start. So reconnected.
Spark at plugs,
Disconnected fuel line for and aft of inline filter, to manually check for fuel flow, pumps fuel although not at a great rate of nots.
So opting to replace fuel regulator.

Are these regulators specific to buells or common to other vehicles? Before i order one direct from HD :(

Thanks in advance.

Best check your fuel pressure first...

Looking at this I think he should check his blood pressure first then go the fuel route :yup:

Well i am happy to say issue is now resolved, i ordered a replacement fuel regulator.

I removed the fuel pump this morning and found the old regulator was loose in it's housing although fixing screws tight, i assume the sealing rings were shot and no longer doing their job.

Installed new regulator and reassembled, fired up on the button :D
