To start off I'm a bit of a computer numpty so be gentle with me and plain language rather than computer speak please ,all I want to do at the moment is to reset tps , I have done this years ago with my first xb so the actual procedure I am familiar with , however I downloaded ecmspy over the weekend and the bike and the computer don't seem to want to talk to each other . I have downloaded the driver for the cable , I get an error message :- Timed out waiting for ecm response. Are both ignition and kill switch set to on , and before anyone asks the obvious yes they are . Any help would be appreciated .

There are at least two conditions where you might see that message:
1. Cable issue:
a. loose/poorly crimped wire inside plug; pin sockets have recessed back into the plug
b. cable not fully inserted into DLC plug

2. Wrong COM port chosen (assuming you have multiple COM ports)

What version of windows are you using?

What com port shows in the device manager?

What com port is configured in ECMSpy?

There is only one usb port on the laptop , when I try to connect and choose ecm type it says com port 1
Windows xp.

In my frustration (I hate computers) I have hit every button on the screen ,after I clear the error message if I hit the gear icon the application shuts down . I'm thinking it might be a problem with the downloading I've tried reloading mono and the database but still no joy (I have not deleted the application) :?

Just tried all the ports available to choose from , the error message was either the same as above or port does not exist apart from when I tried port 3 which came up with:- Failed to fetch ecm type. Cable problem (Rx Tx shorted?) :?: :? :headbang:

Another guy had the same problem recently and it was his driver. I think that is a cable you had from me. It was tested before sending.

You could do a search for Device Manager and your windows version. It's not really a Buell thing, should be loads of stuff on the web.
