I removed the cam gear cover and 2 cams came out with it .....now when I put things back in ,it seems like something is jacked up is this normal ?
I took the rocker box off ,put the cams in there proper place but when I tighten the rocker box the valve is depressed slightly even if the lifters are on the base circle ?

Yeah. The lifters are bleeding down. Tighten the rocker box little by little and don't turn the engine until you have made and smoked a rolie...

ok so tightening the boxes slowly will make the lifters bleed off ?
then I should do one cylinder at a time put the lifters on the centerline and tighten that cylinder, let it bleed and then do the other one the same way ?

thanks

Have a look in the How To for Adam's cut down cam cover, it describes the process there...

so did you have the same problem putting things back in ? I'm still waiting for new gaskets should be here Friday .

I had a look at the cut down cam cover but didn't see anything about the lifters having to bleed down.

I found this...

Quote:
Warning
When reassembling your rocker gear, follow the workshop manual procedure to the letter. If you don't and just go and bolt stuff down (and many people do), you WILL bend valves, break valve guides etc, etc. Now, if you wish, you can re-route your oil lines in a less contorted more logical manner.
