Post subject: | Dropped Ulysses now won't start |
I have a 2006 uly 1200 it has been back- fireing when first started for the last month but soon stops this when engine warms up. Last week I dropped it and now it won't start just splutters and backfires. I have checked there is a spark and the plugs seem in good condition. There is plenty of fuel in the tank and the battery has a good charge in it. I have noticed that after turning the engine over for a few seconds the exhaust port from the rear cylinder is warm while front cylinder pipe is still cold is this normal? Would it be possible for the timing to be knocked out by dropping the bike. I am not familiar with buell's this is my first one and it's becoming a nightmare. Exhaust fell off speedo stopped working drive belt snapped now this only had bike 8 months. hope someone can help |

Is the front plug lead worn through on the idle adjuster? |

Just checked both front and rear plug leads both in good condition and both producing good spark! |

Is there a tilt switch / bank sensor that might be causing this ? Do they need to be reset ? Eric. |

With the airbox off will it fire with a very small amount of petrol in the inlet? If so, timing and sparks are good, and it's an injector / sensor fault. Have you read the error codes? Bridge pin 1 and 2 (IIRC) on the ECM plug and count the flashes on the EML on the dash. |

Thanks ulyChris, ericry and pash for the advice but unfortunately none of these suggestions have helped. The bank sensor is fine as I have read that when this will stop the spark and fuel pump. Tried putting fuel in the inlet and still not running. There is a good spark being produced I have removed the fuel line from the injectors and there is good flow of fuel when engine turned over. I Haven't tried to get a error code because I'm not sure exactly what I need to be doing with the ecm. |

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=807 ![]() not sure if you have ecm spy or not ![]() if you read the link above, it shows how to read fault with it, or manually without it ![]() hope this helps |

Thanks nutah. I don't have ecm spy but have done the manual test and got code 15 intake air temp sensor. Don't think this is enough to be my problem ![]() |

Thanks for the advice, took a couple of weeks to save enough and bike is now off to Southampton Harley. They told me they have a buell specialist working there and I was amazed they will collect it free of charge Tuesday( I live 37 miles from them).Hopefully it's a easy fix will post diagnosis when Harley get back to me. |

No compression doesn't automatically mean you need a new engine, unless its thrown a rod |

Maz wrote: Usually thrown it's piston away......XB's do that ![]() Presumably this is what you were referring to when you recently wrote: ....they like to throw rear pistons between the flywheels, usually resulting in the free rod smashing through into the gearbox, etc. etc. etc....... So, piston separates from rod (why? ...piston breaks across ring groove? ...or gudgeon pin holes?) and rod flails around, wrecking the cases. Why on the rear, and why only on XBs, Maz? PS "Because they're shite." is not a sufficient answer ![]() |
