Post subject: | 2008 Uly - Exhaust actuator questions |
Hi All, got a couple of questions about the exhaust actuator on my Uly. I saw a post on US site where a guy noticed a delay in throttle response on his 08 uly and found that when he disconnected the actuator cable from the servo on the airbox cover the bike performed better all round. The questions I have are a) has anybody else tried this and can you confirm whether or not it works ... and b) are there any dangers or long term risk in doing this? Logic tells me that it is the same as running a free flow exhaust like a jardine etc. Best case scenario(as and when I can afford it) will be an Albert SS can but at the moment that is a far reach for me financially. |

Not sure what the delay was caused by, but I doubt it was the valve as the actuator is only active at wide open throttle. The delay may be the effect of the noise abatement logic; I turned this off on my 07 Uly (earlier ECM) and it made a noticeable difference. As an aside, the accelerator pump model in the ECM is certainly weak, especially if you compare the throttle response to a tuber fitted with a Mikuni HSR42. It's something I have planned to play with buy never got round to it. Now I have a later XB, I'll start playing with ECMSpy again. If you are still unconvinced about what the US guy said, just pull the plug from the motor and go for a ride. The Check Engine Light will come on but you won't do any damage... |
