Can it be used to resurface a mainshaft on the crank?

Y'see, after getting back from Sproutfest, I decided to go for a little play in the woods on my recently purchased Fantic 300 trials bike, with a 'rebuilt motor' You tell the motor was sucking air it shouldn't be off the throttle, so I pulled it apart and found the magneto side seal chewed up from a rusty mainshaft. Some cretin has let the motor sit for a few years, either with water in it or condensation  Thankfully, when I pressed the big end apart, all was good there :D

I know bugger all about metal spraying, but I found a video of it being done, so I guess the answer is yes.

See if you can get a speedi sleeve in the size you require Adam if it is only the area where the seal fits ....they are very easy to fit and excellent quality. A lot of machinery comes fitted with them as standard ;)

the only tools needed are a mallet, a pair of pliers and the fitting tool supplied.

lOl lOl They really are that simple to fit as well and last for years , we have some heavy macines with 2 ton steam heated rolls that still have the original speedi sleeves on that came fitted 15 years ago.
You basically place the fitting tool against the turned up lip and drift it onto the shaft and then peel off the lip after fitting.

I used to have a suzuki rl250 Beamish for playing on in the closed road race season .

We used to use metal spraying at my previous employer on suspension parts for MOD's green fleet of tracked vehicles
Process involved . 1 machine / turn item undersize and concentric
2 paint areas not to be sprayed with wax type paint
3 spray item
4 re-machine / turn to a few thou over size then grind to finish size
all in all abit messy and time consuming (cost )
do like the look of the speedi sleeve looks a lot easier, quicker . :yup:

Now sorted, thanks to Speedi Sleeve 8-) . The sleeve I blagged was too long and covered the end of the magneto taper, but fitted a treat when I stoned it down. The fitting tool I borrowed was a nice piece of kit 8-)

Top advice, thanks :yup:

With a bit of luck, I'll be bunny hopping (not lOl ) around the woods tomorrow night wearing my head torch  lOl
