Nope,
Check your loom near the headstock and ignition, sounds like it may have chaffed a bit mate.

Ok then heres an update , this morning i stripped the front off and unwound all the tape from the loom straight back as far as i could go , and not a single wire was chaffed or damaged in any way .

So i got a wiring daigram and traced all the wires from the ignition , fuse box , relay box, and clocks , tested all the circuits with a multimeter and found nothing wrong . On the wiring diagram there are only 2 live wires that go to the clocks a red one which is straight from the battery , and an orange and white one which is switched live . This becomes live when the ignition is switched on or the parking lights are put on . The orange and white wire also feeds the indicators , tail light and front side lights .So I disconnected this wire from the clock loom and tried connecting a live feed and it does exactly the same the clock needles flick round , the time clock illuminates , as does the backlight in the clocks , and the oil and neutral lights come on . So i dont know what to say , any help would be great . It may be theres not a fault and thats how it is ? so if you've got an 04 xb12 try it and see what yours does and let me know . Cheers

Yes good idea , i know you dont use it very often but i just wanted to know if thats how its supposed to be , and if not i was going to try to get it sorted cause i assume it would cause other problems in the long term if it was a wiring fault .

It's NOT wasted time. I'll bet you've become far more familiar with your bike pulling it apart and sticking it together again 8-)
