I usually leave the bike on choke ticking over to warm up gently and so expect it to be a bit rich smelling and smokey. Noticed today that once fully hot there is a blueish light smoke (only visible in strong sunlight) when the bike is on slow tickover i.e. below 1k......above 1k no smoke. The smoke don't smell of oil just a bit rich, chokey smell. Give it a massive handfull no smoke, got mate to follow me to check it on the road and same story. Plugs seem fine no fouling or sooting. After just changing the rocker gaskets last night gave it a test run and the choke won't stay out and vibrates back in. The choke has recently started to work itself out while on a run every so often I reach down and have to push it back in about 3-4mm. Are these problems interelated ![]() ![]() Any ideas thanks Rich |

I push the choke knob in all the time too ![]() I ended up backing the friction washer off the choke so at least i know it won't stay out but you have to hold it out while warming up ![]() doesn't take long though ![]() The only time i had smoke out the exhaust was when a bit of the fibre in the fuel line blocked the float needle valve open |

I am struggling to understand why the choke would pop out, it has a spring to keep it closed. Have you had it apart to see if there is anything obvious? As for a whiff of blue smoke, sounds like inlet valve guide seals. Do you get puffs of blue smoke if you go down a hill on closed throttle? |

I'd second the valve guide seals. The choke knob is a bit of a mystery too. The one on my M1 (mikuni) works its way in during warm up ![]() |

Yeah my money was on valve guide seals, last time I had the pipes off and shone torch down the port and there was a tiny ring of oil on the top of the valve stem....that'll have to wait till winter strip down. ![]() Choke wise I've never touched it since fitting the mikuni. It originally worked fine this thing with it creeping out has only started in the last 1000 miles or so ![]() |
