assuming you mean the bit on the front wheel, then mine failed not so long ago ('98 S1) and I would imagine it is very much the same part.

Yep the bit on the front wheel. Was making a nasty grindy squeely noise coming back from NABD rally. Took ages to suss it out. Was starting to imagine all sorts of things .
