Watcha good peeps - its the first time I have to take the uly out in what looks to be a very wet week and I happen to be going to the Cornish Cream HDRCGB bike rally down in St Ives over the bank holiday weekend.
Now I know Buells have a bad reputation regarding electrical problems so do you guys think it will stand being out in the wet all week in torrential rain or do I need to take a cover with me? Your expert thoughts

Well you will obviously want to cover it, so as you don't make too many people unhappy and dissatisfied with their Harleys.......... simples..... (plus it will give it a fighting chance of it staying dry and starting ok...lol)

Not sure what you mean mate

if you put a cable tie around the plug cap rubber, this will stop water running down the lead & onto the plug and shorting it out

...ask me how i found this out

Had the same problem when i first got a buell riding in a down poor bike went onto one pot i thought it was going to breakdown but she kept going just didnt run very well

Pulling the plug leads off and putting a daub of dielectric grease in there will shed water away if it works its way inside the cap.

I've ridden mine in some pretty bad monsoon like conditions and it really has to be bad before my front plug gets swamped.

Have to admit apart from the time my front plug lead shorted out against the frame I never had any problems running the bike in the wet.
Last year when I went down to Em's day I rode 300 miles in the pissing rain and was having to lift my feet off the pegs due to the water being that deep and the bike never missed a beat.

I had one big road splash, which made my Uly run rough for a bit, but it cleared once the water burnt off. My bike is left outside 24/7 and never had a problem with water ingress.

A cable tie around the top of the clutch cable adjustment boot is a must to stop water getting to the gearbox oil via the cable sheath. The water runs down the cable, through the top of the boot, collects at the bottom of the boot, seaps down the cable sheath (because the sheath is split at this point for adjustment) and into the gearbox oil. Which in turn can damage your gearbox.

You also want to make sure the dash accessory socket has a good seal as they do leak
and rust inside.
