Hi guys,
I have a problem with my 1125R I bought from Riders (Bristol)a couple of month back.
They have replaced the crank shaft sensor before I picked it up due to an error shown on their diagnostics system (or what ever they use).
Had huge problems riding it home as it run really badly at around 3200 revs.
Was like something is closing and opening the throttle constantly.
Engine light came on and the crank shaft error was displayed. So had it picked up by the recovery people and transported to Guildford HD for repair.
They said the Bristol guys forgot to reflash the ECU to tell it there is a new sensor???
Run ok for about 150 miles and then happened again. Rode it back to dealer and they reflashed the ECU again and cleaned up the sensor or something. Run ok for about 50 miles and this morning it started to hick-up again at the mentioned revs. No engine fault light yet, but I'm sure it will come on soon.
Any suggestions except from burning it at the dealers car park :evil:

Tell your dealer to check service bulletin B-089 dated 23 feb 09.

This bulletin details a machining fault on the alternator rotor where the trigger gap wasn't machined correctly........fix is to replace the rotor.

Models affected were 09 1125R and CR.

Well, had the bike for it's first service and the recall.

Went out on a few shortish rides and the problem seemed to have gone.
But on the first longer run on Saturday, it happened again after about 50 or so miles.
Engine light didn't come on, as I tried to avoid the 3200 rev area as much as possible.
Well, Riders told me they fixed it with changing the ECU, yeah right....

Anyone got any more ideas :headbang:

Yes, :maz: did so I asked Riders for that.
The recall they mentioned only talks about the wiring upgrade, but I specifically ask them if they done the rotor as well and they said "yes".
I now think they probably haven't.... :headbang:

Always best to mark these things before you take them in, if you don't trust the dealer, sad state of affairs really..... :(

The above states that they've previously replaced the crank sensor, not the rotor.......did they read the bulletin ?

This highlights the state of 'diagnostics' / fitter skill levels of today...
Diagnostics point to an area, not a specific item.... yet the temptation is always to replace the 'sensor'... more than once in some cases!...
An illustration I use is that if your bedroom light doesn't come on, it could be the bulb, the bulb-holder, the wiring, the switch, the fuse, the distribution unit, the main switch, someone digging through the cable in the street or you may have simply omitted to pay the bill.... yet these 'faults' all result in the same, the light doesn't work.
Plug in 'the diagnostics' and what does it tell you?.....

Tried to talk to the manager this morning, but he wasn't available and hasn't rung me back.
Guys in Guildford HD are more helpful and will check again, specifically for the rotor problem.
I think I should stop talking to Riders, to keep the blood pressure down :evil:
