After reading lots of good reveiws on maxxis decided to give em a go on the S1WL. Specially as me diablo rear only managed a 1000 miles. Couple of other tuber riders have tried them including Mojo and have come to more or less the same conclusions.
Pro's
cheap
supposedly resonable mileage, I only got 2.5k from rear, but I'm heavy on tyres.
did't square too much, fairly even wear, again could be my riding style.
Cons
take ages to warm up.
Once warm the grip is only mediocre, you find yourself drifting wide or understeering if going for it.
Prone to bad fish tailing when crossing the white lines while accelerating, (more than with diablo's or dunnies).

Conclusion
Not a good tyre if you enjoy gunning it, (reviews must have been on the sport version)
Maybe an ok tyre for commuting and less sporty use specially if you consider the miles per pound equation.

Well, gave em a try and you live and learn, you get what you pay for
Hope thats of use to anyone considering them.

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience with this tyre. Did you choose this based on the availabilty of the 170 rear? I have to change mine and notice the massive range of 170 sport tyres ...not!!

I have been advise that I need to increase rim width to use a more readily available 180 ...dont fancy that, so am all ears when it comes to advice on 170's

Regards Ian

Interesting to see your experience Rich - I've got them fitted on my M1 and am quite happy. I didn't expect miracles given the price and the fact that they are billed as touring tyres. They are squirelly on white lines etc but I try and avoid that situation on any tyres :) The fact that you got 2 1/2 times your previous mileage shows that the compound is much harder than that which you were used to.
I'm probably easily pleased because as long as the tyre is predictable and gives fair wet grip then I'm OK with it - after those D205's the bike came with anything else seems great! That and that fact I was raised on everlasting Inoue's - anybody remember them?
What I was impressed with is that - providing you get the marker lined up with the valve - no balance weights were needed. I don't know if every set is like that but to me it shows that care was taken in their construction.

Which tyres are you fitting next :?:

I think I will be fitting some conti RA 2's, heard lots of good stuff on hear and else where. There ment to give grip good enough for trackday and about 6K miles, think the miles bit will be bollox specially with my riding but if I get half that I'll be chuffed. Would love to put Diablo rossos / corsa but cant afford 1K from a back tyre again  .

I have to say that 1k is a big problem on the road and if you ride like that then nothing will last very long. Most of the time I do not go along with the "you get what you pay for" thing but with rubber its a fact and the Maxxis is a case in point.
