took my bike to protyre/gupa p in plymouth on the fifth of this month to have a new back tyre fitted and the mechanic dropped it on its right side, smash on the floor, and it has now been 25 days and my bike is still in the garage waiting to be fixed, which is a real drag. They still want payment for the tyre and are being really arsey about the repairs. Some of these places treat your property with no respect and when the shit hits the fan THEY LIE TO YOU. Can you believe that these tyre people wanted to fix my bike themselves, they fit tyres for godsakes and they cant even do that right.

thats it, needed to rant

A good reason to have a spare pair of wheels ...

Sometimes I really love Germany. They have a law against and for everything ;) Makes sorting out thuch things a bit easier.

Real shite news
I bet your blood is still boiling over that.
I kept my M2 at the inlaws for a few weeks and the Father inlaw dropped the end of the ladders he had hanging up in the garage onto my tank :o    :( He has never admitted to it which to me made the situation worse but what can you do

As Beef says, even the best make silly mistakes. It's how they treat you afterwards that matters. Give them a deadline to get it sorted.

S'not hard to take the wheels off so you can just take those in for the change.
Local shop here charges $55 for tyre change if you come in with wheels on the bike, $25 for tyre change if wheels are off.
Bit of closing the barn door after .... but maybe for next time.

i take my wheels to the same place as brigadoom, but i prefer it that way as i dont want someone messing with my bike. also gives me a chance to clean the bike a bit more thoroughly. they are usually very helpful and knowledgeable when on the phone, but as for working on my bike i only trust myself, not that i think anyone at gupa-p is incompetent, i just prefer it that way.

as for the bike damage, it was in their hands at the time (well sort of  ), so they should be willing to sort it out, or pay for someone do do it. the difficult bit is knowing when they are not doing the right thing and kicking their asses.

the problem with plymouth is that there is not much choice of where to get bike tyres, as its not big enough to support more dealers. i have found somewhere else now, but dont need tyres yet.

Before you hand over your keys the motor trader must show you a copy of the job card with terms and conditions which you are required to sign. This forms the contract between you and the motor trader.

Then, the motor trader who has a customers car/bike is known as a bailee (not twat, knobhead, or other imaginative description) This means he is under an obligation to look after the customers property and is liable for damages unless he can prove it was not caused by negligence on his part.

What amounts to negligence will depend on the facts of the case.... :?

Sorry to hear they damaged your bike.
Had a thing a few years back on a 99 Speed triple, tyre fitter bent the speedo dogs refitting the front wheel, 2 weeks later no speedo. They checked it addmited the error( hard not to when the prongs are bent and drive seized) and ordered a new speedo drive and dog. Mmmmm after they fitted it the thing stopped again. Went back spoke to the manager in front of a few people in the wtg room having work done and insisted HE paid a m/c shop to do the work. 1 set of tyres and it cost them 2 speedo drives and labour for somebody else to put their mistake right. All the customer charters for not damaging coatings, taking care of your bike and trained fitters etc mean nothing when it goes tits up.
Keep pushing them you'll get there in the end.

Been there, done that, trust no one!
Now to reduce exposure to risk of someone else damaging my bike I always take
the loose wheel/s to a motorcycle shop for tyres to be fitted.
