I would have thought the answer was a little more technical, well, live and learn.

I did put the 100 in my S3T and it ran good, but not better than the 95 stuff. I figured enouph was enouph and left it at that.

Been saying this about higher octane fuels for years....ever since Shell brought out 'Optimax' (now V Power).... when we noticed that it was simply a 'better' fuel than standard UL....it immediately cured pinking, starting difficulties and roughness in some cars and gave better economy.
I'd also 'felt' that it increased power but until now I'd not seen any dyno results....so thanks for that article, Grillphil.
I recommend it to all my (car) customers. Bear in mind that this is in Portsmouth, a notoriously poor city... it takes a leap of faith to fill up with this precious elixir (about 8% dearer than UL) and then wait to see if my recommendation pays off. I have had nothing but positive feedback...all report around 10% increase in mpg as well as better driveability... one chap has told me that a hill he had to tackle in 2nd before he can now breeze up in 3rd....
Only thing I can't agree with is getting it from Tesco..... I could not spend a penny of my cash with the immoral bastards....may they all die slow and painful deaths, caged like lame bald urine-soaked chickens in their own intensive factory 'farms'.

Nope not changed the X1 head bearings yet..............tis only 9 years old this month and must say it feels far lighter steering than the 1125 ;)

My S1 seemed ok til the forks came out-they were worn that badly, the yolks would always return to centre when put on either lock and you could 'feel' the wear when movving off the straight position. (but felt totally fine when bike was together)

How much decent grade did you run through your X1 before coming to that decision?

wouldn't know about the "entry-level" fuels, always, from day one, ran both the dinkybolt, and the Beastie on Ultimate, or V-power, even the Chavrover gets the fancy diesel now an' again, sorta like a liquid senapod type of approach,,,stood me in good stead, same approach to oil,,,"penny-wise, pound-foolish"

....and that's coming from a Yorky....  :worthy:

And quite possibly generalising ;)

Don't want to upset my 'hosts', cos to them, I as a Londoner, am a Northerner... lOl ...but when I said this was a poor city, what I really meant was it's a 'cheap' city... but they do understand good value for money when it's explained...

As far as I understand, the engine can only take advantage of a higher octane fuel if it can change the map for a faster flame front -can the buell system do that automatically? Otherwise, it would require tuning. :geek:
