5k on the clocks (really must look at getting a service...)

Anyway, riding to work today and whenever the needle went over 4krpm there was an additional noise to compliment the thunderous booming i'm used to. I can only describe it as sounding as though the speakers of a stereo have blown and everything is more 'tinny'. Rattling probably isn't very accurate, but it does seem to be metallic sounding.

This could be my ear drums going, but I'm concerned it might be something bike related. Any ideas?

Tighten it/adjust it correctly. Ensure the tensioner is OK....

Ride home:

1st and 2nd gears it sounds rattly at about 3.5k revs without fail. Other gears no problem. New oil first probably

Going faster and not hearing the exhaust over the wind?

Surely the first thing anybody would do if they were concerned about strange noises from their bike is make sure there is plenty of oil in the engine and transmission ;)

Ordinarily Kev.

It started after yesterdays run where I was regularly hitting (although struggling) to keep the bike at 110 through some sweepers. 60 minute run, got off, raspy metallic sound.

Right, going to pick some oil up tomorrow then if I get the chance. Thanks you lot :4roz:

What about the oil light?

Oil light hasn't come on mate. I accepted this is a quirk (ho ho), but if there is a more significant problem then I'm going to have to book it in....just when the weather was picking up.

Maybe it's just the exhaust header clamp / gasket coming loose? I had that once, it sounded like the engine had some serious mechanical defect.
