Hi all, paid a deposit on a firebolt today ( :D ) I wonder if anyone can tell me what tools I will need to invest in to do maintenance etc as my tools are all metric. Is the whole bike AF, Imperial or a mix of one of those and metric? Hoping to get away with a rack of allen key sockets and whatever I need for the wheel spindles etc. any advice gratefully received! Oh, is that right i need a specific buell paddock stand? Don't like using universal cup type method.

You need a mixture of metric and AF. Check the How Tos for removing wheels and sitting Free Spirits Modified Belt Tensioner. That should give an idea.

I use a Micron cup type paddock stand with my Firebolt and it works just fine.

You should get a spindle removal head and a torx key for the relevant fasteners with the Buell tool kit - if the bike's not new check the tool kit to make sure they are there.

Even if it's new it's always worth checking ...

Get a manual too, probably the best £50 you will spend

Thanks guys, all good tips, will have a better look round how to section. Did you really get all those tools for £20 delivered from the US? Compare that to £50 for a manual! Must be one online somewhere.

Saw that set on flea bay and thought that for the money it is gonna be toffee, having said that you could always just jot down all the size info from that add and go get some proper quality stuff elsewhere, which is what im gonna do, apart from the metric stuff of course, never really had any use for the old skool stuff till now, cheers ;).

I reckon that stuff will be alright until you want to put some torque on something, from what im gathering and from knowing how the beast vibrates, stuff's gonna want to be lock tighted and tight.

Nothing worse than shit tools, quite often spoil a perfectly good days spannering and turn a simple job into a foookin nightmare
