heres just a general query, I was thinking of getting some custom plugs but, whats the advantage of custom plugs over the normal foam type from what I've read the foam one's have a better noise reduction properties and there only about 16quid for a box of 200, wheres as the custom ones ca be nearer 60-80 all in ? your views welcome |

I have just ordered some, but they have yet to arrive. The advantages are supposed to be improved fit leading to better noise reductions and more comfort. Disadvantages tend to be cost and the fact that they last up to five years which does mean you need to learn to keep them clean. Friends who have them tend to say they are better than the foam plugs. As they say it very enthysiastically I tend to believe them. |

I've got the custom made ones and I think there more comfortable than the foam ones and reduce the noise more as they fit better. I think they were about £60. |

Personally speaking, I would recommend the custom moulded earplugs which I have had now for approximately three years; they are comfortable, reduce noise immensly (I know, as I forgot to put them in last week when riding the Buell) and they don't hurt your ears. (All my mates say that I should buy them a pair for when we go out on a group ride )Wouldn't be without them now ....... |

i used custom made ear plugs for a couple of years & they are very good BUT they need some practice to put in & take out,they made me cough when i did put them in, they made the inside of my ears sore(these ear plugs made from silcone rtv type stuff) i gave up with them in the end (£55 worth  )& now use soft foam disposable ones £10 for 100 pairs ..........just my 2p worth whichway?

I bought a pair of custom made ones at the Scottish Bike show 3 years ago - had to get them rejigged cos they didn't work - I might as well not have been wearing them and they hurt  . The rejigged ones were no better so i admitted defeat and went back to the foam ones - Custom £55, foamies 50 for £5 - go figure!!

I have a set of custom made ear plugs with built in speakers. Like the race guys use. You can have them for music or audio. About £80 but that was near ten years ago. I went to a proper Harley St ear person. They do stop more noise but for day-to-day stuff foam plugs are good enough. You will need to try a few brands to find what is right for you. |

I'll look into this a bit further, as I'm finding my hearing not as good as it once was which may just be age  regardless of what plugs I use.cheers |
