Frame & engine reunited. This one's having the full fairing fitted so a great chance to do something with the radiators, I'll probably have some proper ones made with the fans facing the right way. Standard ones are like tin foil, I think my last one was punctured by a gnat flying into it while I was parked.

Another four hours or so, most things went ok but some jobs done out of sync which made some bits more difficult than they should've been. However, here's the result.

Another couple of hours, right radiator & tubing, front brake, Air Box, Clutch Bled and other stuff. Another FFFin two hours spent rolling the sticky shit left by the frame guards off the frame, only half way done with this side, the other side is cleaned. Hoping to be able to start it over the weekend. See pic for progress.

Just a bracket for the oil pressure gauge, coolant and battery to fit then I can start it up. Found out I'd nicked the rear brake master cylinder for my other so got that to replace. See pics.

Hi Steve, Thanks fella, yeah it was a bit easier to put back together than take apart to be honest, that was a really steep learning curve to be sure. Great experience rebuilding it as well and not that difficult as you can probably tell from the timeline. I'm gonna try out that fairing I got hence the pod covers being left off and run it for a while just as is. Hopefully I'll be able to work out what I want to do while running it. I'm planning to get some radiators made during winter to forward mount them with fans behind pulling the air out through the fairing. Those K brackets that hold the pods are strong enough to mount a FFFin Jet engine on so plenty scope for mounts. Just bought a Dremmel for carving holes in the fairing where I need them. It's a full race fairing with enclosed belly pan, consequently extremely light & thin, so no stand slot or other luxuries but plenty opportunities to FFFk it up, heh heh, we'll see. Really, I'd resigned to this bike becoming spares but at least whilst rebuilt it's a lot easier to store than boxes of bits all over the garage, it also stops me being lazy & nicking stuff off it for my other one and I get the chance to use the fairing. Once I've mounted it and worked out the problems I can utilise it on either bike. The CR geared one being the one I'd like have it on but this gives me the chance to sort it out whilst still running that. Hopefully I'll start it up tomorrow & go from there. I'm aching like I did a few days work, should really buy a proper work stand, bench thing, as I've got another engine & will probably replace one at some point in the future. We should get out for a run somewhere. |

Well, I fitted the Torque hammer ECU, fitted the battery and filled the coolant. With some apprehension on my part I pressed the start button. It took 3 presses and despite a couple of hose clamps needing tightening after starting and warming through. All seems well. Couple of things to set up correctly & few niggling things I missed doing that will need attention at some point (connection clips) found them after I'd put it all back together, but otherwise all seems good. This engine does feel more responsive to the throttle than the one I'm currently riding. I'll see what it rides like after I've done the little jobs that need doing. I'm leaving fitting the fairing as a project for when the cold winter months come as Summer ain't finished and there's riding to be done. Hope you found this an interesting project. |
