Although my 2010 Uly has covered just 2500 miles I am considering replacing the original drive belt as it’s 10 years old now. What’s your advice guys and where is the best place to buy one, I’d value your opinions and advice thanks |

Replace the belt 1/2 mile before it breaks. Only use genuine replacement. Get it from Riders of Bristol. |

Maz, in all your years, have you noticed any correlation between age of a belt and it being able to hold up to normal use? The only thing I can imagine due to age would be ozone attacking the rubber compound, at least that's how tires and o-rings and such are, but perhaps the belts have a compound for its purpose that my resist deterioration better. I have a couple belts hanging up in my garage for the future. Not a matter of if.... matter of when. |

Be interested to know what the consensus is on replacing the drive belt based on its age rather than on a mileage related service life recommendation. My bike has always been stored in a garage so UV deterioration should not be an issue, but would the belt degrade with age. I am however intending replacing it sometime during the next few weeks. Another thought just occurred to me, how old might the "new" belt actually be when the supplier takes it off the shelf to ship to me ? |

my 06 Ully is still on the original belt, 37k and 14 years old, my old 95 Harley road king was still running its stock belt when i sold it 5 years ago after 40k and 30 years, if taken care of they last a long time! I have also been told that whenever you replace a belt your front and rear pulleys should also be changed out for new, not sure if thats the same on a buell as it is a harley but worth thinking about.. |

I have also been told that whenever you replace a belt your front and rear pulleys should also be changed out for new, not sure if thats the same on a buell as it is a harley but worth thinking about.. My 2000 fxdx had 140,000 miles on it with the original belt when I sold it 3 years ago. The belt looked fine to me when I was washing it for pictures and delivery. Even the pulleys looked ok. It was a 1-1/4" vs 1" but the engine was hopped up quite a bit although these belts can handle a lot more than what most reasonable people would put through it. Even the pulleys looked fine. But just because my peak HP was 150% of stock doesn't mean I ever rode there consistently, so I was within design parameters 99% of the time. It's kind of why I offered up the question. The HD is gone but the Buell will age more than I will add to the odometer as I plan on my X1 remaining a "forever" bike so it will remain a fair weather ride only. The 2 belts I have hanging up, I'd like to last. I guess I could vacu-pak them and put them somewhere dark and cool. I did that with my spare isolators. Like a squirrel with nuts, I just gotta not forget where I put them. |

Looks like I could be being a bit over cautious then, as mine has been stored in ideal conditions and only covered 2500 miles. Thanks all for your input ![]() |

Always good to have a spare.....a lot of peeps opt to fit a new belt and keep the old as they're nice and flexible, so easy to carry and fit at the roadside if needed ![]() |

Thanks all for your input ![]() With Ducati timing belts I was advised to turn the engine over every-so-often if the bike was stood up for an extended period of time so the belts didnt remain static in the same position for a long time. I'd of thought the same rule could apply to Buell drive belts? My XB12 is nearly 17 years old and over 16k miles and still on the original belt. Have toyed with the idea of replacing it |

There's some fairly tight radiuses, or radii, on a Ducati compared to a drive belt, as well as reverse bends. |
