Where is the best place to get the Mikuni carb kit, Im assuming I should avoid the cheap ones which are obviously Chinese rip offs, and how much should I be looking at paying for one. Thanks. |

5 years ago I paid £175 for one in the States although it`s getting them sent here which can be damaging to health. Last one was £185. Have bought them for £80 second hand in UK . New here I bet they`re £300. |

From a brief look, the Chinese ones do no have mikuni in raised lettering in the casting on the tickover adjuster side. For £75 it may work for a while ![]() https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HSR42mm-for- ... 0005.m1851 |

Thanks that gives me something to look at to identify a real one, whats the opinion on the Mikuni, I would assume that it makes the bike run a bit smoother lower down, the short time I got out on my bike in the summer it was magnificent above 3 grand but a bit clunky bellow is this where we expect to see the benefit, and as you said previously I will use my steering damper money on something more useful. |

If you haven't already, make sure your S1 has full USA gearing. The single biggest bang for the buck upgrade to those bikes. By far. The change from switching out a Keihin carb to a Mikuni depends on how well/badly the Keihin is set up. It's quite possible it's been negatively impacted by "improvements" over the years. The HSR42 Easy Kit works pretty well out of the box. |

Yes my bike was imported from USA so has the correct gearing it will just hit about 115 which is by far fast enough for me so Im sure thats sorted, the bike doesnt run to badly with the standard carb, but as we all like tweaking our bikes I thought the Mikuni would be a good upgrade , what difference does it make? some people seem to think it makes a big difference is it worthwhile ? |
