My S1 carb came off the manifold today. I couldn't see any thing to hold it on, either on the bike or in the manual. Is this likely to keep happening? I had previously had a spacer made up to keep the air filter backing plate from rubbing against the frame, would I be better off taking the spacer off and letting them touch?
Never worked on a harley/buell engine before, isn't there anything to stop someone just pulling the carb off :o

cheers
Griff

by the way I had to reregister to get on here

You need to refit the support bracket that bolts up between the breather fittings.

I think that bit is missing, which is probably why the air filter (round screaming eagle type) backing plate was touching the frame. The original owner threw away the original air filter and it was leaking from the breathers when I got it. Seems I didn't need a spacer but the bracket between the breathers. Do I need to get an original or a specific one for my air filter :?: and where?

The manual doesn't have a very good diagram and I haven't striped it yet since getting back but I think there was just a chrome pipe between breathers, will check tomorrow. :)

Bracket arrived today. That impressed me :yup:

I've started fitting it but the manual doesn't have a good diagram or detailed instructions. Should I fit the 3 air filter backing plate screws that attach to the carb to guide bracket in to right position while tightening breather bolts? the gap between the bracket and the head (where the breather bolt the tightens the bracket against the head?) is about 3 mm, will this tighten up or should I fit a fibre washer inbetween? Now there is going to be 3 matings on the breather bolts which ones need washers?

Hope this makes sense, not sure if it does to me now that I've written it :?

Yes.

Assuming you're using banjos (3 matings ?) then washers either side of the banjo but nothing between the head and the bracket, Hylomar on the banjo bolt threads.
