I'm new to the site, but had an M2 from new 2001 - 2006. I think it's the ultimate V Twin experience. To cut a long story short I changed it completely and was sad when I sold it.
Anyway last week I have taken delivery of a beautiful 2001 M2. I've been reading the forums and it's been suggested that the tubers will become rare after been personalised.
I had intended to rip it to bits and 'do my thing', BUT when was the last time you saw a fairly stock M2? Up here in Yorkshire not seen one in a decade. Keep the ugly duckling and be comfy, or make it my own?
Jez

PS I have made my mind up.

:headbang: IMO NO

chop a Sportster if you want to as they are ten a penny

mod the Buell if you want as it's yours after all
but hard tailing or chopping a bike that handles well seems a big backward step TBH

I didn't make myself clear. Sorry . Chop it as cut the rear shorter to put a Duke S4R seat etc on it.

I've got an m2. Modded it and extremely happy with it. Done for me, not other people. Still looks like a Buell tho but better lol.

To be fair I got mine cheap tho and due to decay of certain parts I already knew a fair bit would be changed. Personally I say do it but that's my opinion :yup:

Didn't I already answer this? Anyway, it is yours to do with as you wish. However, as a custodian of an original Buell you may wish to consider whether you owe it to yourself to carefully make any mods to be reversible. I know the bikes are low in value in £ terms and it'll likely always be that way. But time proves the most original bikes are always worth the most.

Me? I have a mildly personalised '97 M2, a day in the garage and I can put it back to stock including the spark plugs and valve caps it was delivered with. I also have a December '90 (91 model) RS1200 that is about 98% original.

It's your bike, do what you want with it and what you'll be happy with.

As everyone knows, the attrition rate of Buell tubers is high. Low cost, higher power than Sportsters has made them irresistable to the angle grinder brigade. When we met Erik at Silverstone, I asked him what his opinion on the subject was, seeing bikes with his name on being destroyed. "Just makes those that remain more valuable, as bikes". Snag is, what do Buell enthusiasts do when there's none left? Thankfully, for the more historic bikes, the tide seems to have finally turned and RS1200's and S2's seem to be surviving better, those that are left, anyway.

Do we know how many early Buells are actually in the UK? I only know of 4 S2's Maz's , Simon D , Steve's and Whiteys

A couple more than that I think, but not many. I suppose in my ramblings I'm not talking about just the UK. In the model year my RS was built I think there was 65 built. I don't know how many remain, must be less than half that number worldwide.

If you're going to do that....at least put a S1 tail on it!
It'll look nice and stay in character as a Buell tuber
