Don't know the answer but do the bits'npieces have their power consumption stated in the instruction book etc. It'd be easy to work out from that
Not a good idea to deeply discharge a battery so I'm told.

Hi All, As I'm a lazy tw@t thought i'd ask here before I try this out for real in my garage with the benefit of my optimate in reserve..... All you touring types, do you have any idea if leaving a charger running off an XB battery overnight for things like mobile phones/ipods/sat navs will drain the battery too much to allow a start in the morning? (Its a newish battery by the way). Cheers, Si. |

I HAVE A 2009 ULLY AND USE A PLUG IN CIGARETTE ADAPTOR IN THE OPTIMISER LEAD TO SAVE LEAVING THE BIKE TURNED ON..NO PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY LOOSING ANY CHARGE....USE IT FOR AIR BEDS,PHONE AND IPOD..HOPES THIS HELPS ,,, POTTS |

Nice one Potts, That's exactly my set up. What's the longest you've left stuff charging without the bike running? -I'm thinking camping and charging up ipods etc. Cheers too Adam, but I'm not sure how that would tell me if it would sufficiently drain the battery. Guess there's only one way to find out, <trudges out into the garage in the pissing rain....!>  Si. |

I've been on a tour recently and I charged my GPS, phone and laptop from the bike. Wouldn't advise leaving them plugged in for anything more than 45minutes cause they all consume around 3-4 amps. That's around 30-50 watts which all add up. I was actually charging the stuff while riding, with an extension cable from the plug to my rucksack. That's the safest way of doing it without risking killing your battery. That's the *last* thing you want to do on holiday. Wake up on a camp site and find out your battery is dead. Starter cables anyone?

Although I agree with Mich's wise advice, I'd just defend the batteries fitted to recent XBs... I parked mine in Boston overnight recently, and as I'm not in the habit of using the steering lock, I turned the key one notch too far, walked away from the bike to the hotel, came back 11 hours later to realise I'd left it with the parking lights on  . Started first touch, no worries

Started first touch, no worries I did the same thing on a trip in Upstate NY. Next morning (approx 12hrs later) a friend said that my light was on. Went out, started her up and she was fine! Even I was shocked! |
