Hi fellow Buell enthusiasts.

Just wanted to run something past you.

Last year I bought a replacement exhaust silencer (we all know how pants the original is when it comes to rust!) for my XB9SX. I had the silencer only ceramic coated matt black at Zircotec to match the engine block. It looked great & sounded better.

I've ridden under 700 sensible road miles with the exhaust on & then last week I was riding home at 40mph when I heard a metallic crack followed by he bomb of a straight through exhaust. On inspection I found that the after market down pipe had cracked & sneered off!!

I've contacted the exhaust manufacturer who said they've experienced this fault before. Just curious to see if anyone has heard of or experienced anything similar.

If I can work out how to post some photos I will do.

Thanks
Chris

Hmmm.....as far as I know, Micron never made a 'muffler' for Buell, just a full 'serpent' system ?......and the header in the pix appears to be a standard Buell item :)
.....although I have to admit, I did miss 'Micron' on the clamp.....should've gone to specsavers :sad1:

Thanks for your responses.

Maz, you have me intrigued! Why did you suggest a Quill?

Apologies everyone else, the Micron markers were a duff clue!

I didn't want to name the manufacturer incase it was my bike or as they have suggested the ceramic coating that caused the fault and not their aftermarket pipe.

If you do a search for Quill on this site and the archive, you will find countless failures (in some cases they were potentially lethal) and also offers of assistance to Quill which were rejected...

Thanks Pash, I'll check that out.

Interesting you should suggest other failures as when the contacted me they said (& I quote), 'Firstly let me state we have not had any problems whatsoever like the one you describe'.

Once I'd sent them the photos part of the reply included 'I have seen the pics and I have never seen this happen before?'.

I'll keep the site posted with how I get on. They have offered 'in the interest of goodwill ,if you send the can and link pipe back to us, I will get a new link pipe made, and replace the inlet cap where damaged FOC'. However, I will need to get this part coated to at my own expense to match the rest resulting in my bike being off road for an even longer period.

I've known 2 Quill pipes that have broken. The last one was on a mates bike and the can fell off on some dual carrigeway, which then got run over. My mate didn't know what twitched more, the bike or his arse
The stupidly designed s/steel brackets also broke (mild steel Mecchano ones would've been more durable  )

Apologies for my ignorance but what's an 'Albert'?!

From reading a couple of posts I'm guessing that Albert fabricates his own exhausts?

I've searched for 'Albert' to PM him but couldn't find a match. If any of you are in contact with him please can you ask him to PM me.

Many thanks.
