Don't know if this is true but sounds plausible.

How points are added to your licence.

If you get a fixed penalty notice through the post which also carries penalty points the computer system first sends you a demand for cash.

When you have paid, it then sends a demand to return your licence for endorsement.
It cannot handle the licence endorsement & the payment at the same time & it cannot process the points part of the system until the financial section is complete.

If you overpay the fixed penalty it must issue & send a refund cheque for the overpayment.

Therefore, overpay the fixed penalty by sending a cheque for the full amount plus £1
The computer will then automatically generate a refund cheque for the over payment and send it to you.

DO NOT CASH THIS CHEQUE - DUMP IT.

The system then remains open and cannot generate the send your licence for endorsement demand part of the program.

It does however record your payment of the fixed penalty so I does not trigger the follow up unpaid fine stage.

As there is no human intervention the system will leave you alone, since it has got your money which is the primary objective.

I have been passed this information by a third party and do not know if its true but it's got to be worth a try, somebody on here must be due some points, if not now, in the near future.

If its me I'll let you know if it works.

Fight the power :yup:

Sounds good though, I get points regular due to a lot of car driving for work so next time I'm going to give it a go, urban myth or not has anyone tried it?

They send your cheque back and ask for correct payment. If you play this game for long enough, you get the consequences of not paying.

I've got a foolproof way of beating the system re: 'Points' for speeding.

If there's a sign stating 30 mph limit, do 30 or less, if there's a sign stating 40, do 40 or less.
Likewise for 50, 60 and 70.......

I paid Mr Loophole a fortune when caught doing 105mph in a 50mph limit.
He got me off a ban by me not signing the NIP but filling it out otherwise correctly, it used to get you off but they advised me that I was also being prosecuted for not filling the form out  , he then plea barganing the speeding prosecution and i was guilty of the lesser offence, 3 points and £150 fine as opposed to a 12 month ban.

the points where an ns90 I think and a complete pain in the arse as it was impossible to hire a car with them.

What he did say though, was that the police statement was wrong and if we went to Lincoln from Manchester he could completely overturn it, god knows what it would have cost for that

I have a friend who tested the urban myth about stalling the prosecution until it was past it's sell by date. NIP - wait 28 days before replying saying no idea who was driving, same with next letter then request photographic evidence, still no idea who was driving. Eventually he added a friend with a French licence to his insurance and said that it was her driving.

Seemed to be working so he took to blatantly speeding through speed cameras. Great scam right up to the point where they called round his house, arrested him, took him to court on nine counts of perverting the course of justice  Could have been jailed for up to two years but was sentenced to four months and got out after six weeks. No licence, no job  Salutary lesson in not taking the piss when you test urban myths ;)

Steve

There is another urban myth too ... sending payment by recorded delivery but just sending an empty envelope .. you claim you sent it and have proof of postage. Technically they cant ask you for more money if you can 100% prove you sent it and they have lost your letter ...

The flaw is that when the office employee opens an empty envelope, signs a witness statement to that effect, you get the same knock on the door and put away for the same reason Steve mentions.

If you get caught speeding, just do the right thing and man up, take it on the chin and pay the fine/take the points.

Getting caught for multiple speeding offences = poor observational skills.
